They are definitely going to get off. The societal goal with these events is not to save the Iives of black men but to limit the anger of the black community. Stephon Clark won’t be the last because the ingredients that lead these events to occur - over policing of black communities, cops being afraid, police leaders standing behind their officers, prosecutors working to protect officers and juries that implicitly trust the cops - still exist.

What has changed, however, is that now police provide more transparency. Police cameras, quick release of the videos and dialogue with the “leaders” of the black community are all responses aimed to limit the anger of the black community. The only way to prevent these incidents from happening is to fundamentally change how police operate. And until that happens nothing will change.
