At the same time Eminem was hot, Outkast and Usher were going Diamond. Eminem just released a bomb that no one cared about and no one is listening to his old albums. Adele has been gone for 2 years and she not doing anything different than what Celine Dion did 15 years ago and what Streisand did 50 years ago. I wouldn't give all the credit to Em and Adele. There's plenty of black artists that are putting out hits right now. Drake has the number one song in the country, Black Panther was the #1 album in the country, Migos just performed on SNL.
I was moreso using them as examples but I would DEFINITELY give Eminem credit with making rap way more mainstream so we can agree to disagree on that one. Soccer moms hated him but tons of ppl that were aghast at the ‘violent, misogynstic’ rap lyrics loved the fukk out of Eminem. We all know the stereotype of the person that ‘hates rap’ but ‘loves eminem.’ And let’s not pretend whites didn’t love ‘Hey Ya!’ which hugely contributed to the mainstream success of OutKast after years of making records. And I’m not saying Black artists were NEVER successful, I’m talking about the mainstreaming and elevation of genres specifically after non-Blacks get involved, and also the specific elevation of non-Black artists in our traditional genres. Even after Usher co-signed Justin Bieber he went on to become the first artist to have seven songs from a debut record chart
.EDIT: And Black ppl are currently supporting the fukk out of Black Panther, etc because we’re currently in the midst of a Black Renaissance or whatever you want to call it... I think this is even partly why this Bruno topic is hitting so hard.

Unreal.

when nikkas accuse you of wanting white approval or hating, but I haven't seen anyone address the point about non-black people wanting to consume black shyt, but want black folks to fukk off
he the one making it
