Student Loans shouldn't be forgiven. We should focus on cost.

Canceling student loan debt would be ineffective at boosting US economy, study shows

probably a questionable source, but this says the boost to the economy would be pretty negligible. 1 out of 6 adults would have on average an extra 2 or 300 a month to spend

which would obviously be a positive thing for borrowers, but some of the posts in here that this would "save the economy" are kinda :skip: theres no reason to exaggerate

All that study is saying is that there are better ways to stimulate the economy, which is true, but that's not happening with a Republican controlled Senate. Mitch McConnell doesn't even recognize that Biden is president elect and some of yall think he's going to give us a good stimulus package? :mjlol:Student loan forgiveness is the best we got given the circumstances.

I've been reading a lot about trends in United States, a couple of issues come to the forefront. One we have an issue with fertility rates and marriage rates they are currently at the lowest lowest levels in USA history. Secondly, this is forcing household formation to take longer to achieve thus causing problems to the USA GDP. I think the government will have to do something regarding college prices and loans that were taken out due to these two issues. I think the USA is going to offer free community college and push for lower prices on tuition due lack of an educated population.

I oppose debt forgiveness... I would like to see public colleges made completely free for all instead.

Why not make state college free and forgive the money?

Breh that money ain’t getting paid back.

They mostly are tho

4. Nearly 11% of student loans were more than 90 days past due
Although this indicates that the majority of student loan borrowers are able to keep up with their payments enough to avoid default, a 10.83% delinquency rate is high compared to that of other types of debt. The Federal Reserve Bank of New York reported that although 10.83% of student loan borrowers can't keep up with their payments, only 8.32% of individuals with credit card debt and only 4.64% of those who are paying off auto loans had the same issue.

5. Only 56% of federal student loan debt is actually being repaid
As of the second quarter of 2019, only 56% of the outstanding federal student loan debt is actively being repaid, according to the Department of Education. The remaining 44% are either in default or on hold. The most common reason students put their loans on hold is because they're still in school or newly graduated and not yet required to make payments, but others place their loans in deferment or forbearance because they're unable to keep up with the payments and cover their basic living expenses at the same time.

its not "my argument", it's how life works :mjlol:

you know what my position is? if you chose to invest in an education and partying for 4 years, you should pay it the fukk back. but to deal with costs, we should cut everyones balance in half and kill all the interest. what is unreasonable about any of that?

and whats your argument for my idea to cut everyone between age 21-50 a check for 50k, instead of loan forgiveness? whats your argument against that? why do you hate people who didnt go to college?

Breh the two are not mutually exclusive.

“We can’t possibly consider helping those who are struggling without considering those who aren’t.”
so someone who went to college, got a degree + job and can pay their 300 a month but doesnt want to, is struggling more than someone who didnt go to college and cant make ends meet at their low skill job

good to know :ehh:
