The concept of working for a job and living near to your job, when automation is on the horizon, is setting up them for failure. On top of cacs not having babies anymore and want to live out the college lifestyle well into their 30s, 40s, and 50s in a bland ass urban setting.

We got to learn to embrace and profit off of entrepreneurship and technology together (not CERTS or STEM majors either).

entrepreneurship needs to be pushed heavy. but if childless people wanna still play the city after their college years are done and be all amid the activity then let them....that's one of the perks of being childless.

That's the point. The city life is never meant for a family. It's meant for economic activity and entertainment for extroverts.

I knew you were gonna mention miller. I have been over there, and it's nice. they got beachfront housing. like a totally different world.

besides the casinos/schools/municpalities/steel mill, what do people do for a living out there?

cost of living is low out there tho.

Most of the folks in Gary work in Chicago. Some folks work at the casinos but the mills wont hire nikkas from Gary. Mostly Cacs from places like Portage or the south Chicago burbs in the mills. US Steel still on the fukk shyt. They haven't paid a full share of property taxes in decades. But that's also because the leadership of Gary let them get away with it. Probably was getting kick backs. The new mayor they got now ain't on that shyt. They bought in some people from Corey Booker's old administration outta Newark so there actually is some folks trying to turn shyt around now. Lot of ways to hustle there, not as much competition or red tape as Chicago and no where near the taxes. Like they don't have resources like that so they contract a lot of small shyt out that normally is handled by a general services dept. If you have a truck and business license you can get a contract to help plow the streets after it snows and eat. If I stayed there I would just open up a used furniture store or start a service based business, some shyt that would work in the area. With the low cost of living Im pretty sure I could make it work until I got my feet off the ground.

Cheap real estate is the main reason. Lots of cheap houses out in the burbs here. But there are other reasons too.

Other reason is pretty simple.
It's the south. It's Black folks everywhere. Some of those areas was low income Black areas back before they was even suburbs. Before Atlanta was even really a somewhat large city. Like the Fairgrounds section of Marietta. That shyt was the hood back when Marietta was just the next town up the road from the A. nikkas been living over there since the end of the civil war. The burbs just grew up around it. Areas like that are sprinkled in all over the metro. Anywhere you had well to do Cacs back in the day you always had a nearby part of poor Blacks. Folks who lived in those areas were the servants and maids of the white people.

Side note for my ATL brehs- I'm old enough to remember when Buford Hwy was the hood. Mexicans just took that area over in the last 20-25 years. Back in the day Plaster Rd especially over that way was ratchet as fukk. nikkas in those areas were the ones who worked for the Cacs in North Buckhead and what's now Brookhaven. Even heard from a few old heads that the area that is now around Lenox train station was the hood back in the day before the train station was there. A lot of these spots have always been there. Poor nikkas been living out in the fringes in the metro

Because when you think of it, "METRO ATLANTA" includes like a MILLION other counties that stretch almost all the way to the Alabama state line. Some of the those burbs reach all the way into Appalachia(the Appalachian mountains communities) and there are alot of poor Whites in those mountain communities. Metro Atlanta is HUGE and there are far flung towns within Metro Atlanta that are still poor and White Rednecks.

Whole bunch of poor white folks. Pretty much what @Poitier said. West Cobb, Paulding, Forsyth. And once you in north Georgia all bets are off. Them mountain folk real poor and trashy. That cartoon Squidbillies ain't really too far from home as far as how they act. Cac meth heads, fat white bytches, and dirty ass Mexicans is pretty much what goes on up there. Not a whole bunch of us up there either. Alpharetta bout as far north as we go.
