Would be nice if it did though. But you don't need young adults crashing out in their 20's because their upbringing promised them that hard, sincere work ethic ensures that they will prosper. Thats just a start, it takes a lot more than that, and not all of those variables are under your control or influence.

But its also NO fukking excuse for not working hard. So it needs to be understood that this isn't a call to just sit back on your ass and not try.

Look at the NBA. There are millions of young men around the world who are NBA level. If they aren't seen by the people who can recruit them, they'll never make it into the NBA. They could have the genetics, they could have the talent, but if they aren't at the right place and at the right time, they won't get in.

A bit of both, when I was trying to get into cyber security, I went through 2 years of rejection, got all the certs, had no experience but someone believed in me.

I wouldn't even just limit it to Hollywood. I think it's a supply and demand issue. Any field where there are a lot of people who are all equally qualified and capable of doing whatever that field requires is going to have this need to know somebody or be chosen.

Hollywood is notorious for this. Because there are tens of thousands of actors, producers, and directors in Hollywood versus a few dozen good roles. Music industry is the same way. But it's not just arts, even feels like finance work this way.
