The last Summer that the East Coast had it. Nas, Jay, SP the Ghost, AZ, Cormega, Nelly, Ja, Eminem, and even NORE had heads moving. And 2002 ended with a bang with God's Son and Blueprint 2.

That Nelly/Ja Rule era was terrible no matter what anybody says I hated hearing Hot In Herre and Put It On Me every 5 seconds, Eminem was still dope, BP2 was out and nobody was really fukkin with it like that, ALOT of club bangers, Cam'ron started the Dipset era at The Roc, 50 Cent Is The Future gave 50 his buzz,The Neptunes on every other song, that tacky "battle rap/punchline" flow nikkas was using,burberry/gucci print everything etc...it was pretty interesting to say the least.

The thing that always gets overlooked about 02 is that Wayne actually became a beast of an mc with those SQAD tapes, murdered damn near every hot beat that was out at the time and nobody even noticed him till years later.

people knew about the sqad tapes. it wasnt under-the-radar at all. they just didnt care like that. those tapes were cool but theyre overrated in hindsight on here. and 500 degreez was clowned into oblivion.

juvi's 600 degreez got more love than all of that. they chitted on wayne something awful.

wayne was basically the big tymers' mascot during this period, even with "way of life" getting mad luv. big tymers were the ones that kept the label alive and headlining the CMR shows.

Yeah 2002 was a good year for music. You had Nas and Jay still at odds with each other. You had Scarface dropping the Fix that year too. Even remember that song by Amerie (Y do we fall in love) being played that whole summer. That song by LL too. This was like the last big year to me for hearing decent music on the radio.

surprised nobody mentioned MY NECK MY BACK by khia. it slipped my mind too. remember the rumor that her boyfriend shot her in the head and killed her because she allegedly gave him aids?

they wasted no time with that rumor. most likely because she never was on tv promoting that freak @$$ song. she was dead by the midway point of the summer. lol.

The last year the East Coast was on top was the last year you heard decent rap and classic sounding R & B.

Classic Niccas
mixtapes ruled this era.

the djs had the game on fire. clue, kay slay, wreck, envy, whoo kid, etc.

and p-cutta came thru with the legendary "street wars" series. those first 4 tapes were epic.

diplomats vol 1
g-unit & dblock tapes

and man, this was the summer of state property. remember these tapes?:
state property vs major figgas
rocafella vs dblock
the 2nd hot 97 freestyle session - the one that was just state property. the best one, imo.

and down south, you had UTP going at it with cash money. they dissed the hell out of wayne.
juvenile - 600 degreez
lil wayne - squad up
