My bad I forgot about the wise council of Krypton who listens to Jor-el’s warnings about imminent explosion and evacuates the planet.

And wonderful General Zod and his military government Jan 6 style protest
What?

Anyway, you said that it never mattered who Kryptonians were and that Superman never fights because of his Kryptonian heritage. That is 100% false.

Movie should’ve been called Krypto and friends since he had all the major “hero” parts. This shyt was mid. Superman getting smacked up for the entirety of the movie just ain’t it. Gunn nerfed him too much in this.
Damn. Harsh but honest. I gotta respect it.

You didn’t read what I wrote? The Kryptonians could be ignorant to science and war mongering.

Superman is asking us to be better. We aren’t supposed to end up like Krypton. He’s not trying to recreate it.

How many images are of Superman standing in front of the Kryptonian flag or wearing his guild uniform vs the US flag and his red trunks.

As he told Brainianc, the Kryptonian version, in the animated series. “Earth is my home now.”

You really know your lore and are well versed in several iterations of the character. :salute:

No one said anything about Superman trying to "recreate Krypton".

However, it's still a part of him, and he will always think about "What could've been?"

One of the most profound episodes of JLU is "For the Man Who Has Everything," where Superman experiences a dream of a thriving Krypton, crafted by the Black Mercy (which feeds on people's deepest desires). The dream shows him living a full life on Krypton with his family, including his parents, Lara and Jor-El.

KRYPTON HAS AND WILL ALWAYS BE A PART OF SUPERMAN. End of story.

Thanks.

I’m not against lore changes or picking and pulling comic aspects. I think when you make something that strikes at the core of the character you can make wild swings. If you break the reality you set up then it starts to crumble, imo.

I thought Nolan’s Joe Chill changes was a major deviation about Batman’s never ending crusade but he honestly accounted for it in the Dark Knight that his Bruce wasn’t fighting a never ending fight. He was looking to end it.it fit that particular iteration.

MOS for all its interesting changes got too far muddled and never accounted for those swings and BVS made it worse with the decades old Batman retcon.

Right and for me 'Man of Steel' is still one of my favorite comic book movies but there were several alterations in there to the character that I grew up with, some of which I did not like at the time and still don't. There's posters in here saying 'Man of Steel' is their Superman, Cavill is their guy and I'm not going to argue that because it's been going on for a hundred years. I felt Gunn's Superman is the closest I've seen to incorporating several iterations of Superman and still keeping the fundamental traits of the character intact.

This is the message that actor David Krumholtz posted on IG when he was announced to be playing Zor-El, Supergirl's father. He used the term "symbol of hope". Zor-El is Jor-El's brother and, by extension, Superman's paternal uncle.

So is Gunn going to make Jor-El and Lara the "odd ones out" among Kryptonians? If that's true (and I hope it's not), then James Gunn can go f*ck himself.

I'll still watch the DCU, but I will never like that change to Superman's biological parents. NEVER.

Smallville's Jor-El actually visited Earth himself, and met Jonathan's father (or grandfather) and had such trust in humans that he specifically sent Kal to the Kent's descendants.

You might be thinking of his brother Zor-El, who thought Jor-El was too much a pacifist. He definitely was not "evil" in the Show, unless I'm forgetting something as I only watched it during the initial run?

And again, the creation of Superman was somebody who was proud of his immigrant heritage and uses it for good (S on his chest famously stands for "hope"). To me that's much more powerful than what Gunn now created, and is truly championing the immigrant story. I'm very hesitant to say shyt like them "coming from dirt farmers", as that's the MAGA talking points (not saying that's what you're doing).

Nah,yall gotta stop this.

Pretending like the essence of Superman is immigrant representation. He has always been an alien, not no damn "immigrant":mjlol:

If Gunn should be blamed for anything it should be attaching this movie to his pro immigration views. Becauase its clearly muddying the discourse. People acting like they actually believe or care about how this movie will tarnish the image of immigrants. Despite the "immigrant" himself(Superman) being good to his core and more pure than the average human lol

I think some people just dont like it and are trying to create a good reason as to why it shouldnt happen. When the truth is nobody cares about Supermans drad parents anymore than we care about Batmans. Most of yall complained so hard about having to sit through the origin again back to MOS. But now folks wanna act like what his parents think or say matters in the grand scheme. Either way it goes their message is inconsiquential in the long run

I still believe the 2nd half of that message was faked. Superman over here causally avoiding black hole spaghettification and anti proton rivers and you mean to tell me Lex Luthor creating pocket dimensions, splitting the literal earth in half can’t edit a video like Epstein footage.

Plus let’s say it is true (bad Gunn writing aside) Kara was/is a teenager, and would’ve interacted with Clark’s parents. Why doesn’t Clark ask Kara about them?

Overall good popcorn movie, justice gang works, Terrific and Gardner are gold. Nathan fillion is too old with that turkey neck and gut.
