Anyway, WB wanted to change course before Black Adam. Black Adam being a flop just cemented things.


In August 2022, David Zaslav was talking about a 10-year plan for DC BEFORE Black Adam came out:

"During the presentation, Zaslav repeatedly pointed to the company’s DC superhero properties — including Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman — as central to the company’s broader content strategy. To better marshal those properties, Zaslav cited his previously reported goal of putting together a team with a “10-year plan focusing just on DC,” similar to the approach Disney has taken with Marvel Studios, as run by Kevin Feige. But he did not announce who would be heading that team."

I won’t get in the numbers game but I could see them feeling that way. Superman in the title alone gets you 300-350 off top. If they can’t get another 400+ that would be a bad look.

I originally was thinking this would hit a billi but there's too much shyt around it, I see it at the cusp of 700, falling short unless word of mouth is good or something in the movie goes viral.

Superman is high unlikely to make a billion, even if it was the only blockbuster movie coming out this month.

Only 2 superhero movies in the last 5 years have made a billion (Spider-Man: No Way Home and Deadpool & Wolverine). BOTH of those movies were nostalgia bait and team ups.

Superman isn't that. It should make around $700-850 million (unless the movie is bad or underwhelming).

Agreed. Budget's set for 225 mill so 700 is probably the "success" number for them.

WB's gotta be banking a lot on this film and this universe, a failure here means selling off major properties or worse, I'd think. They are already pretty much dismantling their gaming division.

No, it was due to Snyder making a trash azz movie. Movie made over 500M in its first week and it tanked afterwards. Hell, Man of Steel opened HUGE and tanked afterwards too. Man of Steel opened higher than Wonder Woman and Spider-Man 2002 yet both of those movies crossed 400 Million Domestically while Man of Steel couldn't even crack 300 Million. Snyder was the problem.
