She thought it was too preachy and she thought they used the word 'shyt' too much lol. I do think my mom, like a like old southern Baptist Black folks, is an Israel defender, so maybe it touched a nerve? She'd never admit to that though.
OK, I see.

Yeah, there's definitely a lot of older people whose only exposure to Superman was the Christopher Reeve Superman. Most, if not all of them, have probably never read a Superman comic or watched a Superman cartoon. So Corenswet's Superman is definitely "different" in their eyes, to say the least, lol.

I also do think for Christopher Reeve Superman fans watching Superman get his ass kicked for over an hour and a half with no explanation about why or even how that is possible is a tough pill to swallow. You don’t get an explanation until the movie is almost over, which may come too late for people who were looking for a traditional Superman film. Even in Superman II we know exactly why Superman is losing. I think that’s why I enjoyed this film much more on the second viewing.

All due respect bro Supergirl, but my dog right here need a flick out ASAP:

I do think a supergirl movie is too soon but I also think people THINK they want mr. terrific having a movie but they don't. Not yet.

I wanna see Mr. Terrific co-star in one of these shows Gunn's doing. Maybe peacemaker season 3 or creature commandos, something to open up the lore a bit.

That's true. However, in the first 2 Reeve Superman movies got tricked and beat up many times.

In Superman I, he has to be saved by Ms. Teschmacher, who removed the Kryptonite chain from him that Lex put around his neck. She did so only to have him save her mother in NJ. The world would've been doomed if not for that lol. Lois died and then Superman used a cheat code to bring her back (fly around the Earth and reversed time).

In Superman II, Zod and his followers initially had the upper hand on Superman. Supes gives up his powers to be with Lois and then he gets beat up by some random older trucker in a diner. Clark is still tall and muscular (with fighting experience), so he shouldn't have gotten beat up that easily lol. Clark in the Reeve universe was a total wimp and dork lol.

Finally saw it
It was kinda good
But Lex looked too young, Clark’s parents looked like Southern idiots, and Lois’s acting wasn’t very good.
Horrible casting for green lantern & his beer belly.

It was okay tho
But Cavill is better but more importantly Snyder is way better than Gunn!

Supes should kill when necessary. It depends on the villain and circumstance, but it's usually a last resort.

I've always disliked the "superheroes shouldn't kill" trope.
Yeah it's basically a product of the comics code. Most times they are giving serious bodily injuries looking at how some of the villains get fukked up lol

Lets be real. Most of the folks claiming "You don't know Superman because you don't read the comics" have probably never read a Superman comic issue prior to the year 2000. The Superman character is over 80 years old. You don't ever need to read a comic book to understand who Superman is. Here is a sample of Superman in TV and movies over the years:
The Adventures of Superman (1952 -1958)
The Adventures of Superboy (1966 - 1969)
Super Friends (1973 -1985)
Superman movies I - IV (1978,1980, 1983,1987)
Superboy (1988 -1992)
Lois & Clark (1993 -1997)
Smallville (2001 -2017)

George Reeves portrayal of Superman is still considered the most comic accurate portrayal on screen, and anyone who actually watches a few episodes will agree. Gunn's Superman is a hodgepodge of 3-4 Elseworld stories, so ultimately, its no more comic accurate than any of the portrayal in the list above. So if someone doesn't like the Corenswet's Superman, its more than a fair assessment simply because the general audience has had plenty of exposure to the character to make such a judgement.

George Reeves is the "most comic-accurate Superman", according to whom and what?

Also, people like Mike Francesa who have criticized the new Superman movie clearly have only seen the Reeve movies from the '70s & '80s. He likely hasn't watched or read anything Superman-related outside of that. For example, Krypto the Superdog has been a thing since 1955, and Mike's reaction to Krypto is "There's a SUPAH DAWG?" lol.

Further, Gunn's Superman is heavily inspired by Silver Age Superman comics.

It just highlights the contradiction in the film yes he saved people from the oil rig but in moments of crisis he didn’t look like he cared about the mass causality occurring around him. Like I said if we go by what is depicted in the movies then he can hear all the death around him and yet doesn’t visually attempt to save anyone. Forget his previous actions in the movie I am talking about when death was occurring all around him why didn’t he make an active effort to try and save people.

Then miraculously he cares about a family of three. There is even a part in the film where Zod throws an oil truck at him and he simply just leaps past it and lets it slam into a building letting the building collapse. Prior to this scene we see a large amount of civilians around watching the battle between him and Zod so we know people are still about. All Snyder had to do was depict him actually trying to stop the damage or minimise it. Hell despite being overwhelmed Snyder could have shown that he was still thinking of the people and still trying that would have made him Superman. A lack of experience doesn’t excuse his inaction as it’s based on character. Why is it a normal man can run into a burning building to save a random stranger? Some individuals just have that ability to act Superman embodies that despite the overwhelming odds of what’s transpiring he still tries key word being tries.
It was a parking garage and we can assume it was empty. Should he have stopped it? Yeah :yeshrug:

He never showed any indifference because every moment he was in the heat of battle with Zod, and I am sure Zod was intentionally trying to kill as many people as possible at that point after the terra forming device was destroyed by Superman.

George Reeves is very close to the Golden Age Supes.

I don't think Gunn's interpretation is Silver Age at all. I see Bronze Age post Crisis. Him tweeting that he read and loved Byrne's complete run, I think, confirms that.
