Shyt I'm about to see it for the third time tomorrow, before FF4 takes over the IMAX screenings, and I think it's a mistake to make Jor-El suspicious and directly goes against the championing of immigrants which Gunn is claiming this film/the Superman story does

You can have interesting dynamics and relationships without altering a fundamental story aspect. Based on this he can never truly embrace his kryptonian heritage. It was a pointless plot point and seems it was placed in for a plot twist as opposed to anything else.What amazes me is that yall cant see this offers up far more interesting dynamics and relationships. Yes he should be looking at Supergirl sideways and not trust her fully. Because she may secretely be plotting to take over earth. Also adds a interesting dynamic if Zod shows up. She may be open to the idea of kryptonian takeover.
Or Maybe she didnt tell Clark because shes a woman,and in their culture Clark would be her lord too.
Yes,Lexes hatred of Superman being partially justified is more interesting than it being completely unjustified.
And last but not least,none of you have shown how this is the same message from Invincible. His parents never say to genocide humans at all. They tell him to become earths king and to guide humans. Theres nothing evil about that considering the way humans run it now. In fact they called humans stupid. Which could mean they hate the idiotic wars and violence and want Clark to police earth. Which essentially is what he was already doing in Boravia.
All they did was tell him the honest truth. Which is he will have to crack a few eggs to actually make people like Lex and other evil people to do what you tell them. Did we not see they were correct? The Boravian president didnt give a shyt about Superman and that cactus because he knew Superman wouldnt actually take it further.
This is what you call interesting world building. What convos could be had if their message was the same typical black and white "be good" message. The message is very much in that grey area. The message is open to interpretation. So Gunn saying the message is real doesnt mean anything either way. Because the message is without context. Superman just jumps to the same conclusions that humans would hearing that message.
Gunn doesn’t have room or the grace to be making fundamental changes like this as his gambling with a lot. I will say it again I just don’t get his angle. I was more excited to see if this was part of a broader plot but since he himself has come out and said otherwise what can be said.

Exactly. It could be interpreted in a number of ways but even if you are taking it at face value, it doesn't alter Superman who is the actual immigrant in the story, who is the one that decided to serve and protect the people of earth, who has been going around saving humanity, being a hero for 3+ years now and you notice how anyone who is trying to argue this point, is just dismissing everything we've already seen on screen with how most citizens are viewing Superman as a hero once he proves yet again what his position is. As for the stooges who ran in here, I am laughing my ass off at how pathetic it is
