We had to shut down a whole store once and move to another one because we couldn't get the stench of bad dope off of us... in "legit" business they refer to this as re-branding or pivoting. That hurt. But back then the city was crawling with addicts and it wasn't hard to find your clientele. Competition was fierce though, most of the beef popped off over playing with prices.
:mjcry:...know u was sick...glad u made it out bruh...salute...

ever thought of writing a book or screenplay?

if u have talked to youngins tryna live that life, have they respected your word?

hows it feel seeing rappers rap about shyt you lived and they didnt?

what woulda happened if u lost 92 bricks:shaq:
I wanted to write a screenplay (something like a Netflix series), but I'm not sure what the point would be. Every time Hollywood gets their hands on our experiences (even with black and brown people behind the scenes) they find a way to make it corny. I liked the Wire but it didn't really capture the unpredictable, wild nature of the streets. NYC was highly organized in terms of drug crews back then (i.e. hierarchies) but a lot of the violence was random. The Wire makes it look like there were big criminal councils and rules... maybe in B More but I doubt it. Apart from that, it's all wack... fukk outta here with the Snowfall shyt.

I do some mentoring now, but there's only so much dissuading you can do. At the end of the day, if they want to be out there and they don't see any opportunities for themselves, tutoring them for a couple of hours won't make a difference. I'm not even sure what motivates them in NY anymore, there isn't really money on the streets... I turn 43 in a few weeks so there's a real experiential gap.

It's not only corny it's counter-productive. They (the current rappers) have created a culture in which everyone looks at drug dealing like a big party. We fukked with Biggie/Nas because most of what they were talking about was the flip side, the struggle. All this code of the streets stop snitching nonsense was created by people who never caught a real case. It's easy to talk about how real you are until you're staring down life imprisonment or the barrel of a gun.

came close to death?:mjcry:
story time:takedat:
Shot at more than once (never hit). Usually over petty shyt, rumors. That period was insane because people were always ready to pick up a gun. You could get hit back then just for shaking hands with a cat someone had beef with... all of a sudden your his man, and you have a target on your back.

How was DC? Did you respect their gangstas?
I went to D.C. as a kid before I got into the dope game and I was pitching jumbs at a low level. First trip spent the entire time in a house in SE bottling the work. Had no impression of the city.

Second time I was actually outside pitching. It was tense, but no more so than if I had been in unfamiliar turf in my own city. I thought they had country accents and they looked country, but everything north of Yonkers and South of Staten Island was country to me back then (still to an extent today lol, I'm a New York a$$hole).

I don't think the D.C. cats were any more feared than the New York cats. In fact a lot of the people out there hustling were from NY (no, not just Alpo). That era was about $$, there was no D.C. team banding together to chase the out of towners from the city. As you can imagine they mostly bodied each other.

Who is the most famous person you served or heard about someone serving?
Never served anyone famous. We hustled in areas that famous dope fiends would avoid or send someone from their entourage to cop. One exception was Hector Lavoe the salsa legend (died of AIDS)... he copped all over Spanish Harlem/the Bronx towards the end of his life. Often times he would just get hit off with samples, as boricuas we revered our legends lol

No idea. I don't listen to a lot of new shyt. Whenever I hear kingpin fantasies or talking about honor/not being a rat I get skeptical.

My daughters are very young. Not sure I'll ever have that conversation, what the point would be. It's not something I'm proud of. I'd rather them see me as the father and provider I've always been since they were born.
