Kind of the first diss song to have crossover success though, and blowout success at that

It's possible some of the reach may have been accomplished with coordinated marketing efforts but even if so has largely sustained those efforts on it's own merit

The song is a pop success and has propelled Kendrick Lamar to a higher stratosphere, rightfully it is his only claim to that status but they are lining him up to continue that success

Time will tell, how he follows up is what matters

And his new album was well-received critically
Ok? What does that have to do with the song being overrated?

Hovengers been trying to rewrite history for near a quarter century.

But the one thing they can't overcome is he was on the radio choked up getting consoled by Angie Martinez. Hov stans really want us to believe he was shook like that in public over a weak diss:huhldup:
nikka was on Hot 97 challenging Nas to boxing matches for charity :wow: :dead: :dead: :dead: :dead: :dead: :dead: . The worst part saying his mother made him apologize:mjlol: probably the most bytch nikka shyt before Drake:russ:

I thought it was over for Nas. Me and my homeboy rushed to the mall to cop the Blueprint the day it dropped. They getting ready to close due to 9/11. Got there right in time. We smoked and listened to it in the car. When Jay said:

You said you been in this ten
I've been in it five, smarten up Nas
Four albums in ten years nikka I can divide
That's one every let's say two, two of them shyts was doo
One was nah, the other was Illmatic
That's a one hot album every ten-year average

Me and my boy sat in silence like :mjcry:

Until Nas clapped back
:wow:

Even Carmen dropped the Ether on him :picard:

"Jay Z’s never been in any of our vehicles. That was him just grasping at things and just trying to make an instant comeback. But even the next day, when he got on the radio station, HOT 97, he was disheveled; he sounded like he was about to cry. He wasn’t sure where he was going with the story. His mother called and made him apologize. ‘Super Ugly’ was not a well thought out plan. And I believe, in hindsight, that he regretted ever dropping that. In fact I know for a fact that he regretted dropping it! Because we have a mutual friend who told me that he said [that].” She further deduces, “It was an emotion reaction to an ass-whoopin’.”

"Takeover" was a dope record.

Seeing that performed live in stadiums was wild, back then. The crowds always knew that joint word for word. That was Jay at the height of his power talking sh*t and being ignorant. Him and Nas having those issues was on some historic sh*t. Two GOAT's going at it and making records that we can laugh at and quote forever. Good times like a MF!

I think that ugly nikka hates his mom. First he blames her for being a “pop shyt and apologize” nikka, he later pushes her out of the closet and exposes her as a dyke for album promo :dead:
Shameful clown and glad Nas bodied him

You really don't think Ether had quotables? :why:

@DrexlersFade posted some of the notables.

"What, you think you getting girls now cause of your looks?" with the disgusted "girls, girls, girls" adlib in the background :mjlol:

Getting "ethered" permanently entered the hip hop lexicon and so did calling someone a Stan as an insult.

Far as the radio thing. When you break it down a rap battle is basically two men writing mean poetry about each other :dame: so if someone feelings get hurt and they show it publicly, that's a major L. Nas interviews from the same time he was laughing it up and clowning Jay, if anything from Takeover and Supa Ugly hurt him, he ain't show it publicly. Not to mention Jay first instinct after "you seem to be only concerned with dissing women" was to humiliate a woman who wasn't a public figure. Then he went on the radio and apologized because moms scolded him  series of major self-inflicted L's.

The stan shyt became popular because of Em

I give you Nas popularizing word Ether ...but other than that but no one is quoting bars, bumping Ether today or a year after its release

Jay was back to business with BP2

Jays pride may have been hurt some but the interview was overblown lol

The shyt got to Nas too

Good it didnt go down

Remember Kelis talking about how he got upset, put hands on her after seeing her speaking to Jay

But yea otherwise he played it cool
