I grew up on the West Coast. I didn't interact with Africans and Caribbean Backs until college. From my experience, the Africans and Caribbean folks were cordial but distant. They mostly stuck to themselves and maybe a few mingled with FBAs.
On the East Coast, I am sure the social dynamics were different because they have a larger immigrant population.
Personally, I treat people how they treat me. If you are solid, then I will treat you as such. If you aren't solid, then I stay away. Doesn't matter where you are from or who you are. Real recognize real!

So to be perfectly honest I don't see either of them thrown around until the coli pulls them from twitter etc. I'm around Nigerians and Ghanaians all my life n never heard it in the real-world. When I researched it is how I found out that it has double meanings.
