i've always said, its your right to NOT VOTE. if you feel these politicians are not giving your group(rich, lgbt, latins, blacks, asians, women, poor, etc). if your group isnt being promised something from the politicians. then dont vote for them. its that simple.

Tariq is out in California where this is plausible. California is fairly liberal and is already playing by its own rules when it comes to policy. This is a bad idea for those of us who live in the south especially this year. The end result would be mass down ticket victories for white nationalist who have ridden Trump's coattails. Our problem is that once the voting ends, we go back to our daily lives and don't remain engaged politically. We think our representatives will just do right by us. The conservative right made the same mistake. Their "leaders" aren't out here talking about not voting, they are going to vote en masse for Trump/Cruz and if they don't win, they are probably going to start shooting.

OK so you won't vote for someone because they aren't really addressing your needs. But on the other side you have a party that is addressing your situation and looking to make it much worse. So are you willing to make the conscious decision to allow the party who wants to destroy your life take control of every branch of government just to make a point to the other party?

You have to get your bread up so you can buy out politicians to get them to do what you want. Just voting is doing nothing

tariq (and i like tariq -- but he rambled big time in this podcast) is not making any sense here.... in one breath he is saying don't vote for someone unless they promise something specific... then in the next breath he says they are not elected by votes anyway, they are selected by the electoral college.... so then it wouldn't matter who we voted for or if we voted at all if the electoral college decides.... (btw, i know how the electoral college works, i'm going by what tariq said)....

i partially agree with him... we do need to stop "automatically" giving our votes to democrats... local elections are extremely important... this "don't vote at all" nonsense is whatever....

California has the most electoral votes since its a big state and the population.

So lets say the democrats lose the popular vote in california by a small margin, it doesn't matter how close it is the 55 electoral votes go to the Republicans

so at the end of the day the popular vote doesn't matter, you just have to win states that have a lot of electoral votes and you can win the election, this is the basic strategy

and you neglect that fact that certain states HAVE MORE VOTES THAN OTHERS

i don't support not voting locally. they won't address your needs if you withhold voting for any of them. they will just address the needs of the electorate.

it's only happened twice that a president lost the popular vote and won the electoral college... . voting does matter... i agree with tariq that it needs to be strategic... but using your example, if the republicans won california by 1 vote thus winning the electoral college, the majority of republican voters in california made the difference.. .therefore voting did matter in that instance... however, there is a reason why republicans are not relying on a strategy of barely winning california to win the presidential election.... my point against tariq was not so much whether the electoral college matters or not, it's that the vast majority of the time whoever wins the state's popular vote normally gets the electoral votes.... voting matters!

If you lose a state by 1 vote, all the votes you got in that state should tally with the other votes, that is what makes sense and what is fair

What exactly has voting Democrat done for blacks? Bill Clinton has locked up more blacks than anyone. If you look, most of those liberal cities are some of the most gentrified and they continually run blacks out. Even in Texas, Austin, which is the liberal capital of Texas, ha a minuscule black population. All these Democrats have to do is hit the Nae Nae on tv and promise some of that government dope, aka some benefits that you will likely never receive, and you'll have blacks rushing to the ballot box to put in their votes for Democratic Daddy, ignoring the fact that blacks are actually worse off under Obama than even Bush. Republicans are the gorilla pimps. You know they don't like you and they will make that obvious. Democrats are smooth, polished players selling blacks dreams, and those dreams get eaten up. They are so smooth that they even have blacks believing that aborting their own babies is bringing wealth and prosperity to the black community. Look at how blacks are getting marginalized once the Democrats found their new hoes, aka Latinos, homosexuals and white women. "Say baby, play the background and don't say nothing. Al Gore actually goes on record on how the fertility of Africa needs to be 'managed' and yet people still won't wake up. Your votes should never be automatic. Make these parties WORK for your vote.

black people are in such dire situations right now its not even funny. cost of living is so out of control in some of these areas its not even funny. rent,mortgages are out of control in a lot of spots in comparison to how much $$$ most people make. if a repub got in off. it wont change much for the worse.

put it this way. as bad as bush was. and I know Obama had to clean up some of that nonsense. with that being said. how well are black folks right now? not well at all overall. if McCain would've been in office. we would've been in the same wars we're in now and maybe one more for good measure. lol. trickle down economics. wouldn change the fact that corporations are still going overseas for cheap labor. a repub would've passed any trade agreement Obama liked much faster. even though the infrastructure projects did help the economy. and some other folks. how many black folks do you see out there working on the freeways, bridges in comparison to white men and latins? yeah, I thought so. and that under Obama. and that's because the congress is republican. now if you tell me I have a shot at getting a dem in office and a dem congress. now we're talking about something a little different. but even then I still need to watch who these dems are in congress and in the white house. cause Clinton did some nice things overall .but in the end who got hurt ? black folks. and that's the guy black folks called their first black president. think about that. the guy they trusted ended up hurting them just as much if not worse than Bush jr. So sorry stop with the scare tactics.

white peoples world will change depending on who's in office. not so for black folks unless the guy is on some revolutionary type stuff. Bernie is close to that. but I'm not sure how real he is on that front. meaning when this repub congress aint having it, is he willing to go all out an executive orders on everything possible to move the needle? we shall see.
