Agreed. TDE seems like a weird place to be signed atm. Ab Soul never really recovered from his gf committing suicide imo and got caught up with hoes. Seems like he lost the will to rap fr. It turns out Schoolboy Q is actually a shytty person irl and it’s not just a rap persona, makes me wonder if old songs like ‘Blessed’ were entirely engineered by Kendrick or if fame made Q bitter (it seems like it has). Jay Rock had a huge hit with ‘Win’ and still didn’t get the push he deserved from the label, he’s definitely loyal to a fault and perpetually waiting for them to invest in him. The B side genre artists like Isaiah and Sir also can’t get the shine they deserve because Kendrick and SZA are the golden geese of TDE (Sir is doing his best tho). But SZA has emotional problems and it will definitely be harder for them to roll out her sophomore album now that Summer Walker is firmly in her lane in terms of her look/appearance, sound, and subject matter. Somebody mentioned Summer not having a hit but the fact that Summer’s album is doing this well WITHOUT a hit is pretty impressive. Jhené annoying ass is on the album, instead of hating they should’ve tried to get SZA on there, too.

I agree with most of what you’re saying except Jay Rock. I mean dude won a Grammy off Redemption & 2 singles it got plaques. I also think SiR can end up breaking through on his next album cycle b/c Chasing Summer is being well received & ‘Hair Down’ is just starting to get a push on radio.

And that's just off the top....

Also I'm not saying they don't make music at all anymore but all those chicks either had HUGE buzz or a huge like 1 year run at one point.

Then they all pretty much go low-key or disappear almost.

From what you typed, it just appears that the acts on the label that put in work do well.
-Kendrick
-Jay Rock
-SiR

Everybody else seems to either be comfortable or has inconsistent work ethic, and it shows.

you picked shyt going back almost a decade and on top of that picked a bunch of one hit (if that) wonders other than MIA :heh:

everyone (male and female) got shorter careers these days, people don't care about music/artists the same as they did in the past and a bunch of artists are only as talented as they wave they rode in on, once that style is dead so is their career.

There's few female artists that get a huge buzz and like he said they come and go just as if not quicker than men so its not like he doesnt have a point. Even Cardi B may be on the way out and she basically ran 2018

smh...sounds like she's going to go the sza route and let a lack or professionalism/taking performing seriously curtail her career. when the bulk of $ is coming from touring these days, you'd think these artists would get their shyt together, this is where real A&R is being missed in the industry. and christ, how are you a stripper but afraid to perform :dahell:

breh, there have just been more men in (urban) music for the past decade in general, and plenty of them are flaming out just as fast (or getting themselves locked up) - fetty wap ran 2015....*silence* lil yachty and uzi were a thing in 2016 (or 17, forgot which year) *silence*...august alsina had hoes going nuts....for all of a year...rae sremmurd had a top 10 hit in black beatles and clearly have fallen from those highs...

it may be more pronounce because female artists have struggled in general for the past decade which was really hip hop focused, so any female who "fails" represents a larger percent, but dudes been flaming out quick too. there was just a thread here talking about how nikkas is already over dababy :heh:
