I can’t phantom the idea of getting laid off then trying go right back.

Too many other places
It's a locality issue. Most people aren't willing to move, so they would return to the same place that fired them because they are the only shop in town. For example with a employer as large as Microsoft firing thousands of people in that Washington area, any available job openings in the vicinity for their specialized fields will immediately be filled.

This happened to colleagues of mine in my previous employer who had purchased houses and started families in the vicinity of their job, based on the perceived permanence of the company. They were layed off with severance, and assumed that there would be jobs in the area; but they were shocked that the job market was lethargic long after their severance expired.

And while jobs did exist in other states, their children did not want to be uprooted, their wives did not want to give up their jobs, and the housing market was worse than when they originally purchased their homes at low interest rates . So, can you guess what happened?

When that previous employer realized that India can't handle their entire tech load, most of these family people excitedly ran back with their tails wagging in the air like puppies. :russ:

It’s strange because you see all the articles on how bad it is overall in tech, but I’m seeing more brehs and brehettes than ever before on social media and YouTube in tech and trying to give tips.

Social media is not real life.

Especially YouTube since they have an incentive to promote because they need views. Either way laying of people to just rehire cheap workers and pay them less for the same job is grimey.

But all they care about is profits and pleasing shareholders.

I mean seeing how tech workers were moving for a few years and broadcasting it to the world like a badge of pride, I'd say it's getting off kinda light.

I always felt the real brehs at least getting to it in Tech prefer moving in the shadows, usually it was the hate to say "DEI" folks with bullshyt roles who were doing all the social media theatrics paired with a few of the narcissist tech cats (non black) who wanted to pivot to grifting.

I saw how much money tech workers were making and then I saw the videos of them basically bragging about how easy it is how how little work they actually do and thought to myself 'You just can't fix stupid.' how much they were telling ON THEMSELVES. They thought talking shyt about how easy it is to work at Facebook or Microsoft, and then post the video ON FACEBOOK FROM A MICROSOFT DEVICE OR THROUGH WINDOWS would go unnoticed? There is a difference between intelligence and being smart. You can teach intelligence, you can't make someone smart; either you got it or you don't. A lot of tech workers are intelligent educated idiots.

breh lotta these folks never came from struggle. Most of these DEI programs were not actually finding people who went through shyt in life, it was always folks from privilege backgrounds they just were not white men lol. A nikka from the trenches who finally makes it keeps his head low and over performs and doesn't brag, he just enjoys the money he makes and moves in silence. Most of these bragging DEI folks had bullshyt roles within these made up DEI orgs or were just folks in HR/Non Tech roles who happened to work within a Tech Company. You'd have overpaid folks in like a Recruiter or Community Manager role but technically the role was in Facebook/Meta so they would run the hustle of how easy it is to work in Big Tech.

I hate to see people lose their jobs BUT Covid blew up and companies over hired like fukk and a lot of losers got into these companies in bullshyt roles. Lotta these companies numbers blew up by like 30-40% when it came to head count. The issue is now when they trim the fat they can get rid of folks where wasn't on that bullshyt thus they catch strays, but folks can point to all the tiktoks of people making videos on how they don't do shyt to justify the firings/layoffs.
