People are confusing invention with innovation. They're not the same. Self driving car is not an invention. The car was the invention. Making it drive itself was an innovation just like cruise control was.

I am talking about groundbreaking technological imventions
There isn't really any difference between the impact of an innovation and an invention.

Most inventions are not invented by who you think they are, and it was the eventual innovation and evolution of the original idea that made them useful in the ways that they are today.

The Wright Brothers "invented" the first flying craft but only flew for 14 seconds. Not useful. Only after numerous innovations did it become the airplanes that are practical to use today

The car was invented in the 1800's (no not by Henry Ford), however, Ford's innovation of the car and the mass assembly line is what made the car efficient and functional enough to actually be a society changing utility

The internet was invented by the military in the 60's however only after multiple innovations like the APPLE PC, the web, programming languages like c did it become useful enough to integrate itself into society the way it has

The 'incandescent light' was not an efficient invention to be a solution to an actual problem or made into a sellable product, so the Thomas Edison innovated off of that and created the lightbulb he's most familiar

innovations >>> inventions. Most important inventions are usually not even taken seriously at the time they are actually invented

There's still plenty more to go. I think that transportation will be a major innovation in the next decade. We already have smart cars, what about smart roads? I think there's still plenty of potential left in that aspect. Not sure about space travel since that is more advanced especially for the regular people. Don't know if we'll get some crazy new invention anytime soon but the technology will improve in ways we've never seen before. We just become complacent with what we've gotten that everything new just seems like a small upgrade.

Well most technology we have access to on a broad scale is 10-15 years behind what’s already possible.

So nah

One of the major things most people seem to never talk about is most of the resources that go into our computers and smart phones are drying up at a erratic rate

In high school (about a decade ago for me now) I had a Chemistry teacher who was saying something similar. Basically there really haven't been any huge technological breakthroughs. We're just improving upon stuff we already have. Some people might say smart phones but those are just smaller computers. By major breakthrough we're talking about shyt like the invention of the car, airplane, tv, internet, etc.
Actually A.I or least advanced level of AI is also on the rise

Google is smart with there AI , every time you do a google search it's creating AI ,

There was a famous guy in the late 19th century who said that there was nothing left for us to invent. You sound like him

Juan Baigorri Velar's Rainmaking Machine

The Rainmaking Machine
Engineer Juan Baigorri Velar, is said to have made a device in the 1930's that could make it rain

I'm not pasting the whole article but really homegrown inventions and innovations like this usually get bought out by enormous companies. When the inventor doesn't want to sell things like the above happen where the technology is destroyed and then forcibly taken. This happened a couple of times to tesla, him getting raided a bunch of times. If that is fake the point I am trying to make is that there are tons of problems and tons of solutions, almost infinite solutions I think. Given that the philosophical underpinning of the west is of the hegelian dialectic (thesis vs antithesis => synthesis), usually what They Who Have Control Over You do is to create a Problem (thesis), create the Reaction(antithesis) which creates the Solution (synthesis) they want. All this means that innovation and inventions are generally only released when it profits Them.

We definitely haven't reached anything final, but the reaching to be done is ~internal~
