Terrell Davis has no business being in the NFL hall of fame

If you're going to go by body of work, you're right Terrell Davis has no business being in the Hall of Fame. He had a dominant 3-year career out of 6. Even when people talk about the greatest running backs of all time or their favorite running backs nobody really has Terrell Davis on their list. Most people are going to have Emmitt Smith, Barry Sanders, Adrian Peterson ,Marshall Faulk, LT and of course your old school guys like Walter Payton and Jim Brown.

maybe not greatest of all time talk

but in the era between Emmitt/barry and adrian/faulk , Terrell was a fan favorite... he was a huge deal in his window... even if that window wasn't as transcendent as more noteworthy examples

Holmes led the league in rushing multiple times and was a first-team all-pro three times. The knock against him is people think his career was too short AND that their rushing/blocking scheme greatly benefited him.

However, you can't put Kupp in the same conversation as Holmes as Kupp has really only had one elite season. At least Holmes had multiple.


I'd rather see someone like Holmes get in over someone like Frank Gore though. I'm always a peak/prime over sustained longevity person.

Gore 50-50? It's crazy to say but Gore sounds underappreciated? The man is 3rd all time in rushing yards. Gore is one of the players where the eye test doesn't match the stats. When you watch those niner teams, you see Gore being a monster,, workhouse, breaking tackles, almost carrying the 49ers offensively during the Alex Smith years. Meanwhile you look at his stats and there's no 1600-2000 yard games. Or rushing tds

incredible longevity but i dont remember a single year where Gore was considered the top back or even top 3

even in his best year, Larry Johnson, Steven Jackson, Brian Westbrook and LaDanian Tomlinson were all better IMO

I don't disagree with you about him benefiting the most from the scheme, other than someone like Shaun Alexander.

However, the difference with Davis compared to Holmes is that Davis has much more hardware. We're pretty much on the same page though.

As a 49ers no one realizes how god awful the offensive line was in his early years. To say nothing of the carousel of old and our of their prime offensive coordinators. Opposing defenses basically keyed on in on Gore because he was the engine of those offenses. We basically ran him into the ground. The offense really didn't stabilize until Jim Harbaugh got there.
