I think what he means by Autopilot saftey features included versus full Autopilot is stuff like lane departure warnings, collision avoidance, automatic braking, etc. Basically the safety stuff that most newer cars are coming out with. You'll have to pay extra to turn on full Autopilot for it to actually drive itself, pull itself out of the garage, etc.
I made a reservation but what has me hesitant is the replacement battery cost since I tend to keep cars for a while, model S is estimated at about $12K after the 8 year warrranty. Guess I got about 2 years to decide and see what else comes out since it's fully refundable

8 years is a long time though. You really keeping a car for more than 8 years??
A lot of people actually prefer cars on the smaller size. Not to mention isn't that the segment this car is supposed to fill? If you want a bigger car there's the model S....
And the screen, I think that's just a preference. Some people like old tech while some prefer new tech.

Im pretty sure he meant what I said and so do a lot of people on the tesla messageboard. We could all be wrong but I've been watching tesla for a hot minute and this is right up hazy language alley. The batteries don't work like that either necessarily. Its the same way a phone battery works you probably won't get full charge but get a good 70-80% roc still. I'm not the best with that so,you can look more into that aspect. Also isn't much coming out in the next two years to rival this as far as I know currently. You'd probably heard about it by now so they could build up buzz for,their product.
I'm shocked too regarding size esp when cars this size usually have dudes cracking baby momma jokes like that c class thread. Guess cause its a car most couldn't afford otherwise they making an exception even though as always I know its not always the same people in both threads. Just speaking on how cats overall treat the smaller luxury cars.
You must not read some of these threads about the smaller luxury cars? If you do you'd get why he said that speaking about here and online in general. The screen is weak IMO I rather they went with the same 17in they have now or made one that could hideaway or something. It probably looks different when it actually comes out cause the SUV had no mirrors, a different grille and tablet setup which were all changed by the time it released.
Why wouldn't you? If it's paid off and runs well why would you not drive it?
I agree with you about paying extra to turn Autopilot on. I was just clarifying the difference between the safety features that will come standard because of Autopilot hardware being standard on all of them versus the "convenience features" that you'll have to pay to turn on. Elon Musk addressed this on twitter.

Good point about the battery. Model S is so new though that I haven't seen much info out there about people's long term experiences past the warranty period. The other thing that I wonder about is the Supercharger network. A 30 minute wait to recharge is cool right now because not everybody and their baby mama has a Model S, so I'm sure in most cases you can just pull up to a charger. But what about when those 200,000 plus preorders hit the street? What kind of lines are there going to be at the charging stations? I know they're planning on doubling them but will that be enough? Not too much of a concern for me because I'm more worried about daily commutes and I would most likely use our regular car or rent for long trips, but something to consider.
Right now in my house we usually get a car every 4 to 5 years, me and my wife typically alternate. So we would probably have one newer car and a second car that's around 4 years old. We'd replace the older car around the time we pay off the new one, so right around the 8 year mark, avoid having 2 car payments.
Also agree with this. I gave my old Honda to a family member when I got my new car, she got 300k miles on it now and still going strong. I still regret giving that car away
I see your point. Like you were saying until more time passes and more info about the life of Tesla's past the warranty is definitely is a gamble. But if we were to calculate the maintenance cost of a gas vehicle for 8 years vs. the potential cost of owning a Tesla and replacing the battery I'd still think you'd come out on top purchasing the Tesla.

Ok my bad then we agree then on the AP stuff then. I agree with the supercharger stuff but until they get in cities like that you don't have to worry unless you are on a trip. I do agree by then Tesla going to have to work on doubling or tripling them cause when a boatload of cats get them those 30min + waits ain't going to cut it. For the most part you don't need to rent a car for long trips maybe with the model 3 but a lot of routes are covered by the supercharger network now granted you might have to go a little out of your way. Also people still taking them long ass car trips lol? I haven't took one of those in a minute its hop on a plane and we out.
Seems like you and your wife got everything figured out with regards to payment of cars too so y'all should be fine.

In a land of altimas, camrys, accords, that cost from high teens to mid twenty thousands wonder how many people really going to drop 42k+ when most avg people are driving cars that are half the cost of this car? Now if most still cop that's crazy but I'll be curious to see how it plays out.
