First of all, UT's class is actually pretty good per recruit. The number is small because there simply aren't available scholarships and UT won't oversign. The lost of the two DTs was huge though. Would have shut up a lot of the oohs and ahhs.

Its interesting to read perceptions of UT from around the country. UT isn't Alabama. It isn't Oklahoma. Its isn't even Georgia. There's not a win at all cost mentally from the higher ups, and they have been trying to run off the "money people" for years. Just not the way things are done. The president is far more concerned with getting UT to an elite level academically. Admission requirements are climbing and so is want for the type of facility that will continue the climb up the academic rankings. That's why they don't give a damn about what Dodds does as long as he makes money and keeps the athletic department profitable. Part of that is why you're hearing rumblings about building and on campus med school and tearing down the Erwin Center. Not to mention UT regents and President are at war with the Governor about UTs future. UT is wanting a UC-Berkeley level school, while the Governor(A&M alum) wants the status quo and a cheaper school. Meanwhile A&M has made it their priority all the way from top to bottom to becoming a great football school. So the next time you see UT a consistent winner will be the next time they luck out and get a penny pincher that just so happens to want to win. Otherwise, welcome to 1984 again. Will probably be 20 years before you see anything above mediocre. If that means UT will become the next great public University, then fukk football. Would be nice to be good at sports again though.

This is ridiculous. You make it seem like it's one (academics) or the other (athletics). Why can't they do both? Stanford does it. And they field twice the number of sports we do. Academics has nothing to do with Barnes letting everyone else pick away the growing Texas basketball talent and his inability to coach offensive basketball. Academics has nothing to do with the terrible QB evaluations Mackie has made the last few years. Academics has nothing to do with the lack of home run power on the Texas baseball team. This athletic department has gotten fat and lazy the last few years. It reminds me of the predicament we're in with Jerry Jones. If revenue is up, why change? I know you're on 247, read Bobby Burton's article on what needs to change. Nowhere does it mention academics. Powers can have his little fight with Perry but Dodds/Plonsky should be focused on resurrecting this athletic department. ESPN didn't give us $300 million to build research labs and move up the academic rankings. :rudy:

Also, a lot of people blame Mack but imo he's just the puppet. Their athletic director Dodds has the perfect head coach in his mind. He doesn't care about winning as much as he cares about making money. If Mack can make him more money than a better x's and o's coach can then Mack will be the coach.

Both Dodds and Mack deserves blame. Dodds for being all about money and not about results on the field/court and Mack for being the lazy, thin skinned, and scared coach that he is. Losing 9 games to your rival with four of them being in blowout fashion to your cheif rival is inexcuseable. Ohio State got rid of Cooper for getting beat every damn year to Michigan. Mack was feeling the heat this past October for losing to OU.

If Mack loses to OU again which would be 4th year in a row, there won't be a hotter seat in the nation. In fact, I bet Dodds feels that heat as well. But posters on Orangebloods believe that Dodds may retire in 2014 and if he's gone, so is Mack.

But I think part of that $300 million is going to academics, right? I mean, a good bit of it for that matter. This is Texas though. It maybe a football school. But academics is number 1 at Texas. Texas was one thought of as a public ivy at one time, right?

@Spade @dtownreppin214 and other Texas fans, gotta question for y'all.....

Is Mack Brown really as nice as he comes across?

On top of being in Austin, I dont see why any player wouldn't want to go play for Mack Brown...he comes across like he cares about the kids almost more than the game.....BUT at the same time, it's impossible to be THAT nice and be able to recruit as well as he has and have the success he's had in his career. CFB is a cut-throat business. Does he have a dark side? Does he have goons doing his dirty work?

From what I've observed, Mack will pull out of any recruiting of a player if he believes there is any shady business going on behind the scenes. I believe that's why they pulled out of the Lache Seastrunk recruitment. Kids really do not care how nice that coach is. Just as long as the school is winning, competing for championships whether conference or national, and if that school gives them the best chance to get to the next level. Right now, A&M is the hot team in Texas which is why they flipped a couple players from Texas the past two years.

If Texas doesn't want to go back to the 1985-1995 years, they better act fast or Mack needs to get his head out of his ass and beat OU, KSU, and win conference titles. If he doesn't and the longer he clap clap around with mediocre results, the better chance this era will feel like the end of the Fred Akers era which led to trouble for David McWilliams in the next. I highly doubt the BMD's let that happen as well so I would believe Mack is on notice.

It's the 90's all over again. :manny: When A&M was better than Texas.

LOL @ firing Mack Brown. :skip: He came in and crush the recruiting building. He was taking players away from OU and A&M. Texas hasn't won a national championship in 30 years until Mack Brown came.

This is why I hate UT and their falsely entitled fans. Just like Texas basketball never done shytt until Rick Barnes came. But Texas fans also want him to go. :snoop:

He promise them the world.

This way my foolish God brother went to Texas instead of OU.

OU told my God brother that he would start by his sophomore year after Tommy Harris leave for the NFL, but he went to Texas instead and never started. :snoop:

They would not fire Mack Brown just to fire him. They would fire him because he is underachieving with the talent that he brings in and gets outcoached and embarrassed by any coach worth a damn. It's one thing to do so but still win your conference consistently like Bob Stoops have. It's another to have the resume like he has at Texas.

Texas fans aren't the only ones saying it either. A Miami, Michigan, Auburn, and Alabama fan is saying Texas needs a change as well. OU fans don't want the change, though, for obvious reasons.

We do not accept mediocrity. What have these guys done the last few years but underacheive? With the talent they have recruited at some point they have to look in the mirror. :aicmon:

Longhorns going to smash mouth football was insanely stupid

This x1000. They didn't need to change their offense. They just needed a running back. Lazy recruitment at running back cost them their qb. Then, lazy recruitment at oline and other positions leads to 5-7, 8-5, and 9-4, subpar conference records, no BCS berths, no contending for conference championships, losing back to back games to Baylor and Oklahoma State, losing all three with two being blowouts to your number 1 rival, and getting owned by Kansas State year, after year, after year. Texas fans should be ok with this mediocrity? :smh:

Great campus and facilities. Rich tradition. Beautiful women. I don't get it.
