Something tells me they won't. The Root's "protected groups" (read: groups that are never held accountable for ANYTHING, are rarely IF EVER given bad press, and have their negative stories spun in ways to defend them) are black women and gay black men. Both groups would look INDEFENSIBLE if this story came out on such a major platform, so it will be quietly swept under the rug. Just like the story about 20% of black women voting for an openly racist candidate in Florida got swept under the rug.

This is why that bird in the twitter post someone posted earlier is so desperately trying to pin this one on black men as a whole instead of differentiating between straight or "cishet" black men and gay black men LIKE THEY ALWAYS DO. This is literally the only strategy The Root could take and if they do the logical gymnastics will be fukking incredible.
