Municipal debt is a major issue. However let us not be ignorant of what is at stake here. Unions contribute to Dems by a lot. Weakening the unions ability to raise money will effect elections. In the age of Cotizens United corporations will raise billions for the GOP to stem the demographic bloodbath they is about hit them in 15-20 years from now. Also it will weaken their political power. This means when the age of austerity comes to these states Republican governors can cut and slash public worker pensions with not political consequences. In Europe with the debt crisis with austerity the European govts can only go so far until they anger the people whose pensions are being touched while millionaires and billionaires go Scott free. With this decision Unions will be weaker and state and local governments led by Republicans can go full mode on their version of austerity. The end goal to destroy the middle class while enriching the corporations.
