I'm not interested in soap operas so you won't find me in threads on a message forum shytting on them. You aren't interested in JRPGs yet you put forth the effort to seek out threads on them and speak on them.

so what?

the jrpg or "anime avatar" community is a straight-up threat to my overall gaming experience.

xenosaga was probably the worst game I ever played in my entire life. I pre-ordered that game because I was huge xenogears fan. This piece of trash "game" or interactive movie is heralded as the second coming by YOU and your anime avatar buddies. That was more than ten years ago, and the trend just continued on.

i saw trailer for ff13, and im like What has genre turned into?

it's not an analog to soap operas, it's more like summer blockbusters. If garbage like transformers continues to make money, then the studios will just keep putting out garbage. Somebody has to speak if only in the name of quality.

I don't like MLB or NHL games. You won't see me in a thread about them. If people like those games more power to them. It's pretty sad to see a person on a discussion forum in a thread about something they don't like bytching about it. Normal people don't waste their time with shyt they don't like.

Your own personal taste have nothing to do with quality. Get over yourself, the world doesn't revolve around you and what you like. Other people like different shyt than you and that's fine.

nope

a genre, that used to appeal to everyone, has been hi-jacked by a group of fringe fans, and the Japanese studios cater to this very small collection of fans at the expense of people like me.

it's actually the other way around. The world doesn't revolve around anime avatars. The Japanese developers could have easily came up with the Mass effects or fallout 3s of the last gen, but they catered to the fringe base.

I gave up on jrpgs after suikoden 3, that was already stripped down enough (world map gone, exploration gone). Mass effect 1 the rpg I played in a long time, and it was a breath of fresh air. Everything I liked rpgs was back and in full force, the took all that away with me2 but that is another story.

the j-devs took away the things that I liked (custom builds and sense of adventure and exploration), and stripped it down to cater to the anime avatars who like cut scenes, love stories, "waifu", and "cutesy" garbage.

that's why from soft is king because that don't cater to.that crowd.

JRPGs never appealed to everyone. They were mostly always infused with anime. They were always linear as well. JRPGs are niche titles and have always been so. Back in the day many of them didn't even get localized outside Japan.

Mass Effect is a WRPG not a JRPG. WRPGs have always had a wider appeal and typically sell better. If you like exploration it's pretty simple just play WRPGs. In most respects the design philosophy of WRPGs is quite opposite ot JRPGs. Non-linear, story takes a back seat to exploration, huge world maps.

There's like a handful of companies dedicated to making a relativly small amount of games that appeal to a niche group and here you are bytching about that like these games that probably sell less than 500,000 copies total are a danger to shyt like Mass Effect, Dragon Age, and the Witcher that sell several million copies. Ridiculous.

Well only one of those is turned based like all the classic JRPGs. I'm looking forward to the games, but from where I stand JRPGs as they used to be defined are still dead.

Ni no kuni the only one keeping the hope alive :mjcry:

If anything turned based gameplay was driven by technological limitations. When the technology was no longer a barrier most developers dropped that style gameplay.

I am NOT a sex offender
It feels great man. It feels like the good ole PS1-PS2 days again.
I know, right. Maybe I'll finally be able to let my ps1 and ps2's gather some dust.

For those who do miss turnbased JRPG's most of the portable RPGs I've played lately are turnbased. You, like me, can be one of ten people to regularly play a Vita.
