The worst part of the crack era was from 87/88-98. So if you were born in 84, you remember when it was dying down. Nobody should have to live with bars on their windows. To even think that is ok shows a level of crime acceptance that most people don’t have.
Who said it was ok to have bars on the window? I stated that to describe how we where living at the time, and to make the point that I still don’t give any passes for that bill. Nowhere in my post did I insinuate that it was ok.

Also I don’t know where you are from, but the early 90s were just a crazy if not even more than the late 80s in my area.

respect. I’m from Cincinnati, OH. I agree, the early 90’s were bad. I was born in 78, so I remember 90-2000 vividly as they were my most informative years. To my recollection crack started going out of style in the late 90’s early 2000’s

I heard Cincinnati was crazy in that period. I’m from Buffalo, which is a little smaller than Cincinnati. Buffalo is usually a few years behind NYC with trends. In 1994 Buffalo had the highest murder rate in New York State. When crime was starting to trend down in NYC, it was still increasing in Buffalo. When we talk about this era people forget the devastation on mid size to smaller city. Cities like Buffalo, and the cities in Ohio/Midwest was destroyed by globalization and factory jobs being outsourced along with the impact of crack era. Our politicians failed to address the economic decline portion of why crime increased. This old article in the Buffalo news about this subject is pretty interesting

I was 10 when that law was signed. When I was young, DC was scary. We didn’t drive into DC for anything and we lived on the other side of southeast. The law was a terrible idea, but the Civil Rights generation are who championed that bill.

The answer to the question should never be “throw them in prison,” but sadly that is what a lot of people thought was right. Definitely short-sighted and Clinton and Reagan administrations have a lot of blood on their hands.

Biden apologized for the Bill and has acknowledged it was terrible. While I accept it, I also struggle with someone who has that worldview and is in elected office. And Donald Trump has that worldview in a worse manor than Biden.

I think it’s weird we want it both ways
And I don’t think we should be have it both ways

cry foul about systemic racism and then say yeah, the crime bill was fukked up but shyt was bad back then

therein the problem lies. Back then dealers ran the streets and was laying nikkas out with military style weapons. People demanded justice and they wanted change. Problem was that change destroyed lives in the process. Your damned if you do and damned if you don’t.

I don’t understand what you are saying here.
One was quietly swept under the rug and is to this day regarded by the GOP as "liberal noise" despite much evidence to the contrary

The other is going through that same process now but instead it's a mixture of "the media"/liberals, and once again at the center of it all is the GOP with plenty of evidence but the same level of cover up and diversionary bullshyt complete with the Republican Senate refusing to even acknowledge plenty of smoking guns

Breh, no one actually did a comprehensive investigation of it, even Mueller. That’s why it’s getting swept away.

TBH tho, unless Russia was changing peoples votes, I don’t care that much about it.

So no lives were being destroyed before the bill?
