The upgrade is so massive, I would do it, even if he walked. Machado's only a year and a half older than Russell too. He likely has another level or two he can reach before his prime.

Besides trading torres & jimenez the cubs prospects were promoted and are on the team so I wouldn't say they gutted the system. Theo definitely over payed for quintana he's really an overrated 3/4 starter and he gave up torres for a rental which burns my soul to this day but they won the world series :manny:

Canderlario was a AAAA player on the cubs the rest of the prospects were garbage or in low a. Cubs have too many young players on the team already with bryant,baez,russell,contreras,almora,happ,schwarber which is the point of the farm.

If he's willing to negotiate a new deal(which he won't) I'd do it in a heart beat if not :camby:

Russell is :ld: offensively.Defensively he's top notch and that baez russell middle infield combo is :ohlawd: plus the cubs can just sign him next winter you act like they haven't already won a world series without machado

I agree they appear built for the long haul, but shyt happens and windows can unexpectedly close. When the Cubs have lost in the playoffs the last few years, hitting has typically been the main culprit.
