They're eating a large percentage of the salary. It's a win it all move because it will impact their free agency.

Yankees weren't willing to move Clint Frazier, Clarke Schmidt and two other prospects for Robbie Ray.

Nah, letting Cole walk and relying on Lance through his arb years. Basically a substitute move, writing on the wall for Gerrit as I’m sure his agent has hit us with a number we already really don’t like. We also have Forest coming in very soon so we will be perfectly fine.

And Lance McCullers gonna come back strong:blessed:

Forgot about Dre :wow:

Hats off to going all in this season but I would take Cole for the next seven years @ $30 million per over Greinke for the next 2+, especially after seeing how Scherzer has held up after signing his deal at a similar age as Cole will (actually a little older).

They should still pay Cole. They'll be printing money as long as that team is kept together to offset any luxury tax costs.

It was the right move. Yankees already screwed themselves when they passed on Corbin and Keuchel. Overpaying for a mediocre pitcher like Ray only makes things worse.

Nah, we have the best pitching coaching staff arguably in the league. A 36 year old Verlander is pitching his best ever, we turned a 35 year old broken Charlie Morton into a game 7 World Series killer, hopefully we can also enhance Greinke. This 2 years we are getting from him will give us a bridge until Josh James, Forest, and McCullers keep the cycle going for us. Cole is going to be the highest paid pitcher in the league next year and we don’t have to spend the money if we already have proper tools in place to operate just as well for even cheaper.
