My favorite subject. I'm responsible for putting together guidelines of how to motivate people to go back to the office and basically I've come to the conclusion that there is no amount of culture, free food, perks, to convince people to go back. If people want to go, then go.

A lot of management feel that going back to the office is beneficial since they can build culture, whatever that means, and that entry level folks can train faster and get answers quicker. I do agree with the entry level part but that's not reason enough to go back. It's basically a company either mandate it and risk people leaving or just leave it to be flexible.

I said it before, if my company starts pushing the office I'm leaving unless they give me some insane increase in yearly monetary salary - that'll be higher than whoever I recently get a job offer from.

Idiots losing all their top talent, to their competitors.

There is no sense mixing up people who prefer to be in-office with people who prefer to be remote.

Best option: have your desks and workspaces at your office be first-come, first-serve. If you want to come in that day then fine, but if not then fine.

I'm not going in though.

Remote work is here to stay.....these compsnies better get with the program.....nobody wants to deal with commuting and bad co workers when i can get the same stuff done at home.
Yep. Turned down a consultancy because they said it’s a “hybrid” work place with more data in the city

Told them full remote or bust :yeshrug:

I don't miss the office, not one bit. I've had to go back in a couple times throughout the pandemic for audits, and I don't have a problem with that. Truth be told if they told me to come in a couple or few days a week or every couple weeks I wouldn't have a problem with it. I know the city is trying to encourage companies around here to have an in person presence to help the economy.

Just got a company wide email from the CEO that they are creating a RTO committee to determine the best way to get people back in the office. Their plan is not going to be ready until later this year/early 2023 due to changes that happen with the company during covid. With the way the economy is going and lot of old school mindset at the corporate level, it was only a matter of time that folks have to get ready to get back to the office. Unless you are is a high demand specialize gig, you have to accept reality that things are going back to way their were pre pandemic :francis: .

That is how my company is now. For those of us who are fully remote we can come in but it is a hotel setup: No assigned cubes, just first come first serve.

People in office mgmt keep talking about “culture”. What if the work culture is bad?

"What makes the three-day week so unpersuasive? For some employees, it’s fear of COVID, but as many people have pointed out, the virus is hardly dissuading most of them from doing other things. “People are at dinner, the movies, they’re around. People are learning to live with COVID,” said Freedman. “What they liked was the flexibility.”

The days of 5-days a week in office are over, for most places. There are just more pros than cons to WFH, even though I personally am not a fan of it. Believe I read a study some months ago saying productivity for most businesses were actually either on-par or exceeding productivity compared to in office, so from that standpoint seems moot to have to require all employees in office. Now do I believe managers and higher ups would quit, no. But for damn sure, entry-level workers will get up and go if it were to be mandated again. Also to add, their COVID reasoning just doesn't work for me. Yeah, everyone is back out ~ restaurants, movies, etc agreed, but those are only temporary moments. These people aren't there 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. It's a completely different ballfield.

Same here. I'm planning on going into our NJ office a day or two next week for the hell of it. They totally took me out of the NYC office.
