QM didn't deny it was a reference track - so i'm going to assume it's a reference track. He's not a ghostwriter because he's credited. Young Jeezy is credited as a writer on Kanye's Say You Will & Robocop but i'm going to assume he didn't drop a reference track for the song.
If Drake took that reference track. Changed a couple of the lines. And added a new verse that is still collaboration but just not the type of collaboration that we would expect. QM has the artistic lead if he's writing the reference track.
When you think of collaboration in the writing process, I would expect something closer to:
'Ye has the concept. Throws out some lines for Jay to use but Jay still has artistic lead over the process. He still essentially writes the song.
I'll still enjoy the music but i'll look at it like a Beyonce album rather than a Prince or even a Miguel album.
To each his own. I personally think it's been blown out of proportion just it's because it's Drake. We still don't know the process of how that came to be. Everyone jumped to the conclusion that he took QM's already finished track which I think is a bit of a stretch. To me, just hearing him say "let me try something" in the beginning and having the Calabasas line (considering dude is from Atlanta and Drake's spot is in Calabasas) in the 1st verse makes me think Drake wrote some of the 1st verse too and they were doing just what they said, collaborating. Maybe they were tossing around different flows and the one QM came up with is the one that stuck.
The thought that Drake doesn't and hasn't wrote any of his own shyt is just kind of ridiculous to me.I would throw him in the Kanye lane though. Beyonce and Miguel comparison is harsh.

Never denied the "reference" part of the track. I'm saying we don't know what the process included. You don't know and I don't know. I'm saying it could have been to perfect the flow they wanted on the track, I don't know. I wasn't in the room when they recorded the track. You can feel however you want about dude, I'm just saying the jumping to he doesn't and never has written anything for himself is kind of ridiculous to me. Producers are listed in the writer's sections of the album too...he's still the sole writer on shyt like Energy, Look What You've Done, 0-100, Too Much, etc and he seems pretty consistent with crediting someone when he has a co-writer.
I guess what I'm trying to say is I don't know why everyone is so mad when the majority of this forum already thought he was trash from jump? I guess I just don't see the "
he shouldn't call himself the greatest" angle either since no one cared when Kanye called himself the "greatest" even when he barely even made the beats he was "credited" on let alone writing his own shyt.
