what do you know. Another Saturday. Another Terps 4th Quarter collapse/Loss. Might as well enjoy a Tall Can.

Tonight's Tall Can is the Irish Style Red Ale from Manhattan Brewing Company. The ABV is 4.8, style is a Red Ale. Hits all the notes you'd expect out of a red. See some people say it was kind of earthy but it's got more of a biscuity/malty finish in my opinion. If you like this style it is one you should try if you have them near you.

Beer day at the spot on my way home. So I've been looking for the beer in the 4 pack, but the store had been selling them in singles. So talking to one of the goof troops working in the store about styles and shyt. He's like you peep the singles. And normally I do, but lately haven't been checking them. So I did today and boom there was the beer I'd been looking for. Got the last single.

The beer in question is the DKML by Founders. This is an Imperial Malt Liquor Aged in Bourbon Barrels. The ABV is 14.2%

:russ:

The label says you have what could possibly be the first malt liquor worthy of a glass. And that is the damn truth. This shyt when I poured it into the glass looks like any other Bourbon Barrel Aged Beer I've had. And it went down smooth. No Steel Reserve/Camo style burn. Calling this a Malt Liquor is colonizing haha

If you got em out your way definitely give it a go.

I stopped buying Founders once I found out they had a discrimination suit. They were on that :mjpls: with their black employees.

I used to buy Founders a lot too especially the Porter, Breakfast Stout, and KBS.

I mainly mess with hazy IPA's now. Not sure what state you're in but if it's NY, DC, or Philly you need to try Other Half. I usually hit them up once or twice a month because they rotate about 8 different beers weekly to go with their staples. Tomorrow they have a Citra hops week so I'm going when they open to pick up a few 4 packs. They also ship.

I'd say they're probably the top 2 or 3 ranked brewery for east coast IPA's. They blow Founders out of the water so I don't miss them.

I'm in the midwest. So a lot of our stuff comes from Colorado and Michigan and then the central plains states so Oklahoma, Nebraska/Missouri/Kansas/Iowa

I try to get a Tall Can in every Saturday. But the way the Terps are looking tonight I might need something stronger to get through the rest of this got damn game.

Anyway the Tall Can of choice is the Nitro Dry Stout by Boulevard. ABV is 4.9%. Has a bit of a chocolaty finish. The Nitro style kind of makes it flat out of the can, Think this would be better on the finish as a pure Nitro Coffee Stout.

Just another Hop's Club Toozdee. So I'm gonna let you know what he had

Eq60v0FV_o.jpg

Order of the beers:

1. Erdinger Oktoberfest
  • Wheat Beer as the style (5.7% ABV)
  • Think they leaned heavy into the Wheat Style couldn't really pick up any of the Oktoberfest expected notes. Also felt really flat.
2. Rhu Tang Clan by Walnut River
  • Fruited Sour is the style (5.9% ABV)
  • Loved the name, but I'm not a sour guy. And while it's a play on a strawberry Rhubarb pie. It wasn't overly strawberry and just too sour for my tastes
3. Morever by More Brewing Company
  • Hazy IPA is the style (6.5% ABV)
  • Not sure I've had a beer from this brewery. It's an earthy hop. So not my go to version of an IPA. Pour was in the same line as a Juicy IPA but definitely more hops and much more earthy on the finish than most of those. Especially the Voodoo Ranger Juicy's that it might get compared with.
4. Red Sweater IPA by Founders
  • Red IPA is the style (6.5% ABV)
  • Founders as I've been reminded is on that fukk shyt. So can't say go buy this on GP. As for the beer itself. I don't think I've ever had a beer that is an IPA that is modeled after an Irish Red. And as most problematic Companies are known to do. They made a good beer here.
5. Pun'Kin Power by Crooked Stave Brewing
  • Pumpkin/Yam Beer is the style (7% ABV)
  • Just your traditional pumpkin beer. Nothing to write home about. The clove was a bit strong throughout so I will definitely take points away for that.
6. Shugga Original Recipe by Lagunitas Brewing
  • Strong Ale Imperial/Double (9.9.% ABV)
  • This was in the brown ale family if I was pressed. But, it was nice and smooth on the pour and not heavy on the finish. The ABV is strong enough that it won't let you think you're drinking something soft. But, it's caramel notes and other touches of it's style of Ale will grab you instantly.
7. Narwhel Imperial Stout (2025) by Sierra Nevada
  • Strong Imperial Double (10.2% ABV)
  • I love a nice dark heavy stout especially this time of year and this didn't miss at all. It's got a nice smooth body, great flavors would say it's got some of the many coffee beer notes but not heavily coffee tasting for those that don't drink coffee. Sierra is great about releasing yearly editions of their beers. So this is one if you buy. Keep at least 1 bottle to age. We did a vertical of a different Sierra beer a couple years back. Where we taste tested a few different years and it was great.
8. Rum Barrel Aged Pecan Pie by Boulevard Brewing
  • Brown (Imperial/Double) Ale (13.5% ABV)
  • Boulevard has been heavy on a desert beer kick the last year or so. And this is another in that line. If you love a German Chocolate Cake, this beer tastes exactly like that. This is a desert beer no question. It's too sweet to have multiple in a single sitting. It's strong, and smooth, but yeah this isn't a sipper or a wind down kind of beer in my opinion. But, you like pairing beers with your meals, or your deserts. This is likely a good compliment. Like I said if you love German Chocolate Cake this beer and that might send you to the upper room.

Overall not a bad night of beers. I definitely preferred the Lagunitas and the Sierra Nevada beers over the field. But outside of the Sour and Founders I'm hard pressed to say not pick up if you see them.

I think the DinoBits was probably my favorite beer of the evening that we tried.

The regular Erdinger Weis is great IMO

you brewing your own? I don't brew, but several dudes in my Hops club home brew.
I used to run a urban farm and we had bees so I've been slowly testing out the potential for wild fermentation with the honey. Its risky because honey is expensive but you can get flavors that are super unique to the batch because it just builds the yeasts that come from the honey from the nectar from the flowers that the bees pollinate.

I bought a bunch of commercial yeasts but I havent gotten around to using them yet.

It's a lot of fun.

I've also branched out past honey and started making other wilder ferments like my pinecone syrup ones, those are almost done.

Currently I've got small 16oz mason jars of pineapple, peach, peach/hibiscus, hibiscus/black tea, pine cone 1 and 2 (different ages, summer 2025 and summer 2023). These are all fruit + sugar 1:4 in a mason jar fill to the MASON line and burp every morning and midday until they stop burping then they are moved into a fancy recycled bottle, currently old glass salad dressing and mirin bottles.
