That's what makes it not a comeback. Thoughts and ifs are not reality.
He certainly wasn't coming back from a sales point...maybe from perception (for which there is no unbiased metric)
It's all about perception though. That's why Jay-z can consider Blueprint 2 his worst album and most Jay fans don't really mess with it, but The Black Album isn't considered a comeback album. A comeback album isn't just about rebounding from a bad album; it's about coming back when people counted you out.

80% of people named dont even write or produce the music listed

not that it doesnt make a "comeback" album true or not

but I cant sit and put something higher based on a celebrity saying "okay, writing team. please write me hits and provide me with the budget to pay for studio musicians and producers to let me do karaoke and win a grammy"

I cant name the best one, but at least with Nas, you know he wrote the whole shyt and picked the vibe, atmosphere etc

If the consensus was that Jay was trash and trend hopping once again with VOL 1 which I think went plat though. What he did with VOL 2 going 5x was a hell of a come back.

Honestly, Chance The Rapper's album, Star Line, is up there.

So many people wrote Chance off after Big Day that his fall off practically became a meme for years and nobody ever thought he'd drop a good album ever again.

In this thread, I realized a lot of people don't know what a comeback album means. Naming people's second albums that blew them up. :mjlol:

This is a comeback album.

Tougher Than Leather was a success, but it wasn't the monster album that Raising Hell was. Back from Hell was the first real failure, and it seemed like the group was over. They had no idea how to move forward with all the new competition popping up. They could barely book shows anymore. Run became a born-again Christian, Jam-Master Jay had the group look more like Onyx, and they worked with a team of all-star producers for this album. Pete Rock gave Run-D.M.C. their last real hit ("Down with the King"). The album sold well and it restored the group's image.
