young jeezy being the best rapper in 2005? :laff: that alone invalidates the list.

1981: Kool Moe Dee (How? His debut didn't come out until 1986. My pops use to listen to "Wild, Wild West" when I was a kid but again that was more mid to late 80's. I would say Sugar Hill Gang)

I assume they are counting his work with Treacherous Three ... though, neither treacherous nor sugar hill gang (couple singles) put out an album in 1981. (Blondie's "rapture" came out in nov 1980 -- I'm surprised complex didn't choose debbie harry as best rapper of 1981)

Like I said Nas probably deserves the title in 2002. I get Em had the bigger year, but Nas had a huge year then with the attention. Started off the year riding high off Stillmatic and people getting into that, started getting on radio collabos again (Brandy, J Lo, Jagged Edge), released Lost Tapes to critical acclaim, had the summer talking without having to release a single song, dropped Made You Look and closed it out with God Son.
2002 was a toss up between Eminem and Nas, with 50 as the breakout on the mixtapes.

Nas, Pac, Rakim, KRS One and Ice Cube only having one year each for the best rapper while Drake, Ye, Wayne have multiple does feel a little bit like Shaq, Kobe and Hakeem having only one MVP between while Steve Nash has like 2 or Bron 4. On one hand you can see why in the moment they got it but in the historical context it does feel a bit strange.

Probably speaks more to the level of competition and attention today vs yesterday.

North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:
What the hell does best rapper alive mean anything? When these media outlets come out with these dumb lists the least they could do is show the criteria as well as the process. This is just some random gibberish. It me they just pick who's the "hottest" and most "popular" yet Ja Rule never even got an honorable mention? :mjpls: for any years? Really?

Why is LeBron's name in there? He's in the same tier as Shaq, Kobe and Hakeem. A lot of people feel he already surpassed Kobe in 11 seasons also all his MVP's were well deserved. LeBron's been more dominant than Hakeem and Kobe in his MVP run (09-13). Nash should only have one MVP, 06 should have been Kobe's while Kobe's 08 should have been Chris Paul's IMO.

Agree about Nas though.
