None of this has anything to do with my post or the OPs point

think it's interesting that we have the most literate and educated American Black population to date, and yet "we're so behind". Black Gen Z has higher rates of college enrollment and higher college graduation rates than Millennials at the same age.

IMO, We're behind because

1) Black Gen Z Women are going to college
2) They're majoring in stuff that doesn't pay well

I'd add that there is much less of a degree premium in 2025 than there was in 2015, 2005, 1995.

But do you

When Black women don’t go to college they’re much poorer and more vulnerable and so are their kids. Uneducated black women have poorer health, prenatal care and higher death rates due to childbirth, cancer, and domestic violence. For all the talk about useless degrees and debt, those degrees and debt still up the odds on longevity and quality of life for Black women.

Maybe some of ya dont know how these studies work. Or what it means in the grand scheme of things.

Multiple things can be true at once.

The sample used and the numerous variable can steer the study any which way.

And how success or progress is measured can also determine the conclusion

It seems to me that no matter what we think will get us out the mud, white people still have a massive impact on the outcome.

I dont think minorities have ever “taken” power or freedom back in this country. We are allowed rights and allowed the scrapps.

The family unit, however it is constructed, sets the foundation for a child's success. A family that values education, sets and supports high expectations, sets boundaries, demonstrates empathy and nurturing in the family and community, shares quality time, creates an environment of open and safe communication, actively provides physical and mental protection, promotes creativity and individualism, shares family history and experiences, exposes children to other cultures, food and travel, demonstrates the value and accountability of work ethic and responsibility of one's word.
Government programs can't teach this.

Will need to look into this more, and also see whether two parent black families were compared to single parent black families. Barring some shift that she found, two parent black families out perform one parent black families. So I need to read this when I get home.

My concern is that often two parent families are dismissed or attacked by a certain segment of black academia that despises nuclear families and heterosexual marriages. Not saying that's the case here, I'm not familiar with this author at all. But I'm wary of anyone telling black people that marriage has no benefits.
The point they made was that Black kids from 2-parent families performed the same as white kids from single parent families.

I think the struggles of Black kids from single parent households is well known and understood....but we haven't really explored why Black kids with 2 parents are lagging behind their peers from other races.

I make over 160K in cybersecurity and offered to coach multiple people over years to do the same. You think any of them took me up on my offer? And I'm literally giving them the answers to the fukking test. You can't help some people it's too ingrained to settle for less.

Several people have just sent me PMs after reading the cybersecurity posts in that stickied thread.

If Trump is successful in limiting the number of H1Bs. (which I doubt) There could be another tech job hiring boom. But that's a big IF because the market is completely dead. Everyone is waiting to see what happens to make any moves. I might even hang it up once there is no more easy money to steal.

Do they adjust for family income? And I also saw another study saying that children who are raised in two-parent households but grow up in neighborhoods or have friends where the vast majority come from single parent households are worse off than kids who grow up in communities with mostly two-parent households. That makes sense as far as peer pressure.

Out of curiosity, which cybersecurity tests are you referring to?

There are still like a handful of cyber security certifications still holding their value mostly SANS certifications. But those SAN courses cost almost 7K and the exams are 1K per attempt. But they make you stand out more to hiring managers.

If you already have some IT experience getting a certification from a vendor like Microsoft, Cisco etc is the 2nd best thing.

Do you think the comptia certs still hold value? @O.T.I.S.

The Truth

Maybe if you work for the Federal Government. But most Security managers could probably care less about them.

Comptia mainly satisfies fed positions like said above, but they’ve vastly expanded their certification programs so at the moment, i think so.

But shyt like CASP, CISSP are still kings of the cyber world as far as getting you in the door and starting out at 6figures. Those are for management type positions though.. a lot of CIO meetings and shyt.

IT is broad af and so is cyber, damn near treated like a separate thing now (and should be). So it all depends on the roles you are searching for.

CompTIA is viewed as “catch-all” type certifications imo, more so for roles that handle a broad spectrum of things and basically means you understand them. But vendor specific certs (Microsoft, AWS, etc) still can get you in positions but usually they are more specific than CompTIA.

For hacking and shyt, I have CompTia Pentest cert and CEH experience But for more hands-on roles, I recommend going more advanced and those certs are extremely expensive.

But getting CompTIA certs in shyt like Linux, Cloud, etc are still good entry level certs into those roles. Was actually studying for Cloud+ to pivot into cloud security positions later on… just in case.

Nothing else matters without financial literacy. Too many black people especially women are drowning in debt. With no hope of paying it off.

What good is making all this money if you just gonna lose it all in the end.
:yeshrug:
Yeah I realized how bad everyone around me is with money when I became slightly more literate
