I'm saying this as a Punk fan but I think it all comes down to his ego. He's always tried to be a locker room leader, and it's failed everywhere he's gone (ROH, multiple times in his first WWE run and AEW). The Young Bucks called Punk to join AEW from the jump, but he said no because he wanted to wait and see. Then when AEW was hitting its stride with Omega/Hangman, he decided to come in & give unsolicited advice to some of the guys in the locker room. Obviously it didn't go over well.
All of these NXT kids look up to Punk because they grew up as kids when Punk was at his hottest. In the case of the women, they stanned his wife. It's what he always wanted. The funny thing is while inflating his ego with the younger locker room, Triple H is making him embarrass himself by doing things he's publicly stood against
