I hate to cosign science, but I'm just trying to take the emotion out of it...

Ppl probably gotta die, for certain advancements to move forward. Its just like the whole Mars colony shyt. Those initial dummies heading up, are probably gonna die...:yeshrug:

Elon Musk said as much, and I think many of these ppl going, have already came to terms with not coming back. Its a necessary evil I guess, for future settlers, to eventually thrive out there. If ppl didn't put their lives on the line, we probably wouldn't have airplanes, vaccines, etc.

Unlike the Mars situation, these ppl probably didn't know they were deemed expendable, and being misled is an issue tho.
nah..

This was just common corporate/institutional greed due to worries about how it may impact the company or institution down the line that happens all the time. Like someone mentioned, the boeing 737 Max is another good example. Because they didn't listen to the science individuals (engineers) and instead were thinking from a CEO/management perspective whatever metrics or money they were chasing (in this case funding from the government). When these people think like this, thinking about the safety of human lives is secondary. I hear what you're saying and like you said something that has never been done before like going to mars or something like that does come with its own set of risks. But, we've had tons of shuttle launches and space launches before this and this is just one case where career security and politics was given more importance than human lives which happens a lot.

Black ppl should never say this, considering our history in this country

Like everyone else said, this was knowable outcome, as opposed to risk, so they sacrificed ppl for more funding without telling them

T.O.
it only took 5 posts before some bozo cited Elon Musk as some fukking authority on how our lives are supposed to be and the fact that lives being lost to advance science are a necessary cost.

:mjlol:

some people are so lost :wow:

fukk SpaceX and Virgin Galctica, like that has any fukking bearing on everyday people.

U mean like the 737 max?

the worst thing about the challenger, the crew was still alive until they hit the ground
As an aircraft electrical engineer. You wouldn't believe how many 202 requests I get from management. 202s are pretty much form request to let defects or structural imperfections slide, saying that even though this isn't perfect from the engineering standpoint, it's safe to fly in this current status. I seen one plane with about 50 202s

NO
In short, they just basically said the astronauts were human guinea pigs.

remember, NASA and the Amerikkkan space program was founded by ex-Nazis.

Good post OP. I know the story of the challenger and all the issues and why the engineers were pressured.

Actually this is discussed in college...well I know it was when I was in school. They talked about it in one of my engineering classes and how as an engineer you have to be willing to speak up if lives can be lost.

But sadly this shyt happens in aerospace. Whether its the 737 or the V-22 falling out the sky or the F-22 knocking out pilots. It happens more than folks even know.

The challenger just happened on live TV for the world to see.

I know you watch Mayday/Air Crash Investigations right? So many of those episodes were based on structural repairs that were neglected or done incorrectly :martin:

Like I remember one episode about a Japanese airline flight where there was some damage to the tail and as a result they had to do some repairs on this umbrella-like section in the back of the plane that helps keep the pressurized air in. Boeing did the repair, but the repair guy only did one row of rivets instead of two. Over time, due to depressurization and pressurization cycles, it started to put stress on the metal near the rivets and created small cracks around the rivets until finally one flight the row of rivets failed and the whole entire rear tail section blew off due to instant depressurization. This was like 13 years later or something like that. 200+ died because of a shoddy repair 13 years before.

Edit: found it. Was this crash
Japan Airlines Flight 123 - Wikipedia
Also it was 500+ people died. :merchant:

Do you think reagan and bush sr. Knew the challenger was faulty beforehand?

Yea that was a pretty fascinating documentary. Human nature never ceases to amaze me.

A few people are on here making comments not knowing wtf they talking about as usual. This was a completely avoidable situation, and had nothing to do with advancing science.

Those O rings on the solid rocket boosters repeatedly failed and faired even worse in cold weather. This was a known fact to the contractors and NASA. The shuttle launched on one of the coldest days of the year and some people knew what would inevitably happen but they were ignored/overruled.

That dude Larry Mulloy and his supervisor were pretty much the main ones responsible and neither expressed guilt or sympathy. Was watching it with my old lady and said those men were practically a case study on the white man’s sociopathic nature.

Hopefully this is not a airliner
