no doubt. i agree.

I don't need mindless drones out here competing for my jobs.

I can speak well AND perform in the STEM field. Thats no problem.

I NEED some of ya'll to mess up in life and major in meaningless BS.

I'm not gathering enlightenment from that sociology class. I already knew that mess.

ITS FOR YOU GUYS to "find yourselves"

If you get to college without key lessons then its on me and my upbringing to take advantage of the fact you haven't figured life out yet and spend less time trying "figure it all out"

I actually disagree also about tuition. I think the access to unbridled loan money has indirectly ballooned the cost of university and now too many kids are going to college these days. To end up doing what most of them do, college is a waste of time.

There just isn't that much benefit from all these kids walking around with BS degrees.

Trust me. The STEM field ain't hurting.

If you think life is a competition to "figure it out" then you haven't figured out life :heh: This idiot thinks life is some competition to get enslaved by some conglomerate to 50 and 60 hr workweeks and an ok salary

Also, it isn't access to loan money but HOW much loan money. The GI bill was irresponsible in bloating the cost past what most could afford because wages didn't keep up with inflation.

it absolutely is. You just think its about poetry and manicured lawns.

colleges offer BS degrees cause they can get youth with no direction to try and fall prey to them.

Yes, it introduces you to a new way of thinking...then what?

A VAST MAJORITY of the humanities can be enjoyed on a whim, without formal introduction. All that "knowledge for knowledge's sake" shyt is dupilicitous and i'm sorry it hasn't dawned on you yet.

You should look at your college and see how the enrollment breaks down. There are BS classes for the sole purpose of generating wealth for the university.

I disagree with what you mean by perfect.

Do you want students pontificating about the meaning of life around the watering hole eating dates and drinking wine and snacking on crackers and olive oil in argyle sweaters? :stopitslime:

Arguable.
completely disagree.

humanities reside in the realm of subjectivity and inquiry...which is cool, but ultimately less relevant.

...and we're not even talk about art majors who actually competent at manipulating tangible aspects of vision or materials to create something novel.

Thinking in and of itself is ONLY measured when it comes to academic performance. standardized measures of achievement.

Your grades aren't an indicator of your ability to think, merely your ability to finish a task and be able to contribute to society.

I'm trying to put you on game right now.

Your 4.0 in women's studies means you can finish assignments and study intently...not that you are some brilliant child.

I can't.

the barriers to entry are getting higher and higher.

The only thing keeping wall street from bending you over is the current laws in place.

Thats why i say theres no morals on wall street.

if you knew how tehy made money now, then you'd wonder why they just don't roll all the laws back in the first place.

Who's the dumb fukk now?

Life is what you make it.

You can say money doesn't matter, but you must not have enough of it.

I'd rather be a retired banker who takes up painting than a struggling artist.

that "fulfilled" shyt is a trope used by those who want to achieve mediocrity instead of completely investing in their talents.
if I can discourage someone from being a painter, they didn't want to be one in the first place. :win:

College was supposed to be a center for learning. If it wasnt for the crony capitalist faux socialist whatever you want to call it bullshyt
economy people would only need a high school diploma. Lets not forget that keeping up with production win wage would be $21. x 40 x 52 = damn near 45k a year

Exactly. Napoleon is saying that humanities are cash cow BS majors and ignores that most STEM majors are funnels for Fortune 500 to enslave them into 50-60 hr workweeks and they will STILL be debt slaves and just as unhappy as the person who at least attempted their dreams lol. Of course their are always outliers. This nut is actually arguing that the American education system is logical. The people you encounter on The Coli...

Don't think outside the box and do something different, you deserve what you work for. Many people are getting degrees and they still complaining about money after working in STEM jobs.

Humanities degrees are extremely useful. Gotta play the game right. If youre really that worried minor in math(grad school in anything) or cs(get a job right out). The reason for high unemployment is competition in the job market, not any particular educational track.

bingo.

If youre gonna do it, do it RIGHT.

I got homies that majored in Anthropology ONLY because it was the easiest science to get a B.S. and they ended up going to med/dental school.

THATS how you do it.

Do you love french literature and women's studies? Go ahead. Take some classes. Satiate that thirst...but don't you dare come out of that institution with something that doesn't make you an attractive candidate at anything remotely beneficial to society...cause truth be told, you're not much with that degree but someone with an opinion.

Basically. The cost is why people like Napoleon think how they think. Squeeze the middle class and raise the cost and watch them fight over the scraps and STILL end up being a unhappy debt slave. The 1 percent are fukking geniuses.

"center for learning" is what they call it. ...doesn't mean thats what it is.

Theres nothing wrong with knowledge, but don't get the value of that "knowledge" twisted.

Its now an extended day-care to delay the maturity of youth well into the mid-20s while they try to figure out ways to contribute to society.

I literally don't understand what you're getting at.

a few years ago, i'd have completely agreed with you. Hell, you sound like I used to...but now...I'm kinda like...dude are you really that naive out here?

Who even said I was a debt slave? I'm basically getting paid to be in school :heh: I definitely didn't have undergrad debt :pachaha:

Whats all this "knowledge" lead to?

On commencement day, am I supposed to act like the guy with his double major in religion and ethics holds a candle to me? REALLY?

Well youre right but what im speaking from is more with an understanding of what college was intended to be. Like going back to the greek universities. Idk what the greek word it came from was but basically college was for people who were rich af and just wanted to think all day.

Calculus changed everything :wow:

I'm calling BS on that anecdote of yours.

Not all STEM is created equal. Some fields require a PhD, some don't...but don't sit up here acting like a chemistry major with a 3.5 is on the same playing field as a film studies major with a 3.5. :camby:

WOW. Look at all that knowledge...good luck paying for groceries.

Tell me this.

What is society supposed to do with all these people who don't want to gain any tangible skills?

is your answer to raise minimum wage?

We really need to talk about this.

AFTER graduation...then what?

Heed Breed.
Was it worth losing your humanity and sanity for that? For a job that doesn't start out at 100k?

I actually evolved in both so far ( humanity& sanity ). Built relationships with people from different ethnicity and countries. So far being the only one that has a "ghetto" upbringing. And yes i am happy the avg starting pay is 70k ,also knowing that i have a degree that guarantees me into law and medical school...

What documentary got yall shook ?

They'll live a more fulfilled life than you, definitely. I'm not naive to think a person with a job in a tangible trade is going to do better, if money is the only predictor, but I'm also informed enough to know that's because we live in country where the educational model is obtuse. You have no macro view, you are a product of the external forces of the plutocrats who want idiots like you to go to school, get your major and work long hours thinking you did something, even though you work for someone else and don't own your own business or have any conception of what a fulfilling life really is about.

who said I thought it was "logical?"

Are we talking about how to win, or how to bytch and moan?

It'd be great if i could be a professional philosopher. I'd drag half you dudes under the table anyways :heh:

...but oh well..that doesn't afford me the life I want...so I'm supposed to do what I love now? Whats that? Sit at home, troll the internet, and read shyt on wikipedia next to a nude woman in bed? :pachaha:...yeah... good luck with that.

AFTER graduation...then what?

Tell CEOs to slash their annual bonuses, give then back to the employees, give the employees more money to stimulate small businesses, make small businesses easier to start up with lower interest rates, pay off debt faster, stop raising tuition/ slash it if it needs to be, and make more varied jobs for everyone to live an easier life.
