If cost were not an issue would you get a degree in the humanities?

I dont usually deal in what ifs, but in an ideal world I would triple major in computer science, physics, and philosophy.

I dont see the point in majoring in humanities when I can read the books for free, youre basically paying to hear someone's opinion of an opinion

You couldn't see me on your best day, gnat. A professional "philosopher" could be a politician, a lawyer, a social worker, etc. It's literally the most portable and base level tangible skill there is in society. Society exist because of the very people you are trying to diminish.
i'm not TRYING to diminish anyone.

But we have a thread about trying to give people advice.

MY advice to people fortunate enough to read this is to skip all that happy-go-lucky shyt and go for the gold.

Work your ass off and fukk all that "let me float around and finger paint" and shyt.

Not all of you are banksy or kanye.

Hell, most of you aren't even JK Rowling or a budding polemicist. :stopitslime:

I don't wanna hear ANY complaining about someone who wanted to 'follow their passions" when the secrets to MASSIVE success are set in stone.

Couldn't that be said for any field of knowledge? I just read about a 13 year old boy who taught himself how to build batteries and generators and is now sharpening his knowledge at MIT. I don't think the self-taught argument vs STEM thing is valid. Most of those STEM degrees don't exist without nerds and self taught scientist creating the fields in the first place.

You are an asset.... TO SOMEBODY ELSE lol

and you will more than likely be the good ole asset you were trained to be in college because you don't have the proper base in the humanities

Good boy

I'm versed enough in the humanities to realize i don't want to make a living off of some ethereal and tertiary product like "managing relationships" or "entertainment"

whatever works for you. do it.

I hope my wife is an interior decorator on the side. :ld: :obama:

I'm in a field that I will always have a job in...because people can't do what I'm about to be doing...and no one will ever replace me in what i'm doing. :usure:

You're confusing what I'm advocating. I'm not saying people should get a job based off their humanities, just that they should learn the humanities. Base level. I think most people should learn trades and skills in HS. No where did I say STEM and trade based jobs and skill-sets have no value.

If I were this young man, I'd aim to get my degree and seek to start my own business as the end goal, not be someone's asset like you will be for the rest of your life.

Ehh, its not words to live by, but good for a self esteem boost. Its modernized classical liberalism. I think he would like her work.

Have you read atlas shrugged?

Both it and The Fountainhead. I agree with you now that you put it that way. I thought you were implying the typical spill that I hear from people treating it as the gospel.

Lmao na you need to realize she was like a JK rowling. She wasnt exactly Chomsky. From the perspective of just a person that wants to better his own life her work has done a lot for me, especially as a black man growing up in one of the most segregated cities in the United States. She was just as romantic as 'all these women', jjust in a way you dont usually see
