My future line of work depends on a few degrees...whatever though.

fiscally explain why humanities degrees shouldn't turn you into a debt slave?

If you wanna talk about the cost of college, thats one thing, but to assert that colleges should be invested in educating kids in the humanities for the fukk of it? thats a failed statement all over.

No one is obligated to "enlighten" you.

You got this kinda messed up. I'm all down for knowledge of self and introspection and all that comes with the social/mental masturbation that comes in the humanities...but at the end of the day, if you're not contributing to society, no amount of "humanities electives" will change that.

Why is that sad?

What about an undergrad degree in psychology or a degree in creative writing or anthropology is DIRECTLY and inherently employable?

Theres nothing obtuse about actually creating something.

College is not a funnel for employment, breh, or in a perfect model it should not be. We already know a college education and it's cost is inflated beyond it's worth. Someone who has a degree in the humanities is desirable because it shows that they probably have a grasp on thinking and a larger worldview than someone who went to school where only the computational component was ever relevant. Knowing how and why you should think, how a great society should function is important for any citizen of any nation, is it not?

I can make the argument that any STEM major could be learned in HS as a trade.

Wall St has no laws you stupid ignorant fukk. Do you even pay attention to current events?

It's better to fail as a painter than to live a life unfulfilled as a banker. Keep chasing the money and missing the point of life, breh.

You're a slave of the system and it's funny to watch you defend it vehemently.

Oh really? So he put you on earth to be happy?

So go study finger painting and tell me how happy that makes you.

You act like people are going to want to employ you for opportunities you don't create yourself OR things you just "can't be bothered" to do.

Fine.

You don't wanna work?

Don't.

Just don't complain when theres no market to support your obtuse hobby.

I got something better. :youngsabo: Just that can't have stagnated minds around me.

But If everyone becomes a stem major and over saturate the job market, then you got a bunch of depressed ass people working for a check. We need diversity in the job market and we need to slash the tuition rates at least 2/3rds for a better life and for a better economy.

Chemical Engineering undergrad in his junior year with zero debt .
Once i hit the industry, making business moves like Kanye.
:smugbiden:

Was it worth losing your humanity and sanity for that? For a job that doesn't start out at 100k?

Humanities degrees are extremely useful. Gotta play the game right. If youre really that worried minor in math(grad school in anything) or cs(get a job right out). The reason for high unemployment is competition in the job market, not any particular educational track.

College is not a funnel for employment,
it absolutely is. You just think its about poetry and manicured lawns.

colleges offer BS degrees cause they can get youth with no direction to try and fall prey to them.

Yes, it introduces you to a new way of thinking...then what?

A VAST MAJORITY of the humanities can be enjoyed on a whim, without formal introduction. All that "knowledge for knowledge's sake" shyt is dupilicitous and i'm sorry it hasn't dawned on you yet.

You should look at your college and see how the enrollment breaks down. There are BS classes for the sole purpose of generating wealth for the university.

breh, or in a perfect model it should not be.
I disagree with what you mean by perfect.

Do you want students pontificating about the meaning of life around the watering hole eating dates and drinking wine and snacking on crackers and olive oil in argyle sweaters? :stopitslime:

We already know a college education and it's cost is inflated beyond it's worth.
Arguable.
Someone who has a degree in the humanities is desirable because it shows that they probably have a grasp on thinking and a larger worldview than someone who went to school where only the computational component was ever relevant.
completely disagree.

humanities reside in the realm of subjectivity and inquiry...which is cool, but ultimately less relevant.

...and we're not even talk about art majors who actually competent at manipulating tangible aspects of vision or materials to create something novel.
Knowing how and why you should think, how a great society should function is important for any citizen of any nation, is it not?
Thinking in and of itself is ONLY measured when it comes to academic performance. standardized measures of achievement.

Your grades aren't an indicator of your ability to think, merely your ability to finish a task and be able to contribute to society.

I'm trying to put you on game right now.

Your 4.0 in women's studies means you can finish assignments and study intently...not that you are some brilliant child.

I can make the argument that any STEM major could be learned in HS as a trade.
I can't.

the barriers to entry are getting higher and higher.

Wall St has no laws you stupid ignorant fukk. Do you even pay attention to current events?
The only thing keeping wall street from bending you over is the current laws in place.

Thats why i say theres no morals on wall street.

if you knew how tehy made money now, then you'd wonder why they just don't roll all the laws back in the first place.

Who's the dumb fukk now?

Life is what you make it.

You can say money doesn't matter, but you must not have enough of it.

I'd rather be a retired banker who takes up painting than a struggling artist.

that "fulfilled" shyt is a trope used by those who want to achieve mediocrity instead of completely investing in their talents.

if I can discourage someone from being a painter, they didn't want to be one in the first place. :win:

Bro, life is infinitely greater than the sum of any of our life experiences. Let that boy cook. If you had a 700 sat math you will enjoy engineering, and if you dont enjoy it and do it anyway youre statistically likely to fail or drop out. let that boy cook

hat is more disturbing is that colleges don't encourage innovative thinking for people to create their own businesses. It trains people to be permanent employees and for a way for them to stay at borderline poverty.

Good god you are an idiot. We differ on the point in education and arguing with a gnat isn't going to change my position. I just want you to reflect on your deathbed about your life and come back to this thread lol.

no doubt. i agree.

I don't need mindless drones out here competing for my jobs.

I can speak well AND perform in the STEM field. Thats no problem.

I NEED some of ya'll to mess up in life and major in meaningless BS.

I'm not gathering enlightenment from that sociology class. I already knew that mess.

ITS FOR YOU GUYS to "find yourselves"

If you get to college without key lessons then its on me and my upbringing to take advantage of the fact you haven't figured life out yet and spend less time trying "figure it all out"

I actually disagree also about tuition. I think the access to unbridled loan money has indirectly ballooned the cost of university and now too many kids are going to college these days. To end up doing what most of them do, college is a waste of time.

There just isn't that much benefit from all these kids walking around with BS degrees.

Trust me. The STEM field ain't hurting.

Exactly. Napoleon is saying that humanities are cash cow BS majors and ignores that most STEM majors are funnels for Fortune 500 to enslave them into 50-60 hr workweeks and they will STILL be debt slaves and just as unhappy as the person who at least attempted their dreams lol. Of course their are always outliers. This nut is actually arguing that the American education system is logical. The people you encounter on The Coli...

STEM field are only for a gifted few that know computers inside and out. Most people are not that skilled in that shyt. Plus if (or when) too many people go to STEM majors, it will lower salaries and make it harder for everyone to make money.
