I was on Walmart website at 8 on the dot the day before thanksgiving. I refreshed once and they were sold out. Looked at the time and it was still 8:00

COVID-19 caused the global supply of Switches, a 3 year old console, to dry up overnight. And it's still that way, 8 months later.

Sony's bullshytting. They absolutely saw this coming. Same with MS. This a supply-side constructed shortage to build hype, Nike-style.

Sony can't make a order for 3 million consoles a month just to satisfy launch demand. They would then be stuck making consoles they don't need once the launch rush dies down. They started making ps5 in May the demand is just too great.

They aren't going to eat if sony keeps production up and puts them out in stores or even more online. People without the extra money to spend on a ps5 will wait until the price and availability changes. If sony isn't lying the scalpers won't make much profit if sony is making it easier to get one.
