I don't know how podcasting got some popular, always felt hearing a man speak for 2 hours is lame if you not making money off it. I can understand a stock and career podcast or even getting life together and being healthier but hearing dudes speak about random stuff like music and people when everything is about money at the end is just a little off to me.
Not everything has to be about money or self improvement 24/7. You can listen to the pod while doing other things. Just like you say it's lame, some would say posting on a messageboard is lame:yeshrug:

Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven
So you would rather them just be along for the ride and be taken advantage of? You'd complain about it if it happened in any other industry, but since Joe's doing it then it's okay right?

If that's how he treats his friend and employees, then it's no wonder that he's in the situation that he's in now.
Stop it.. This is business. Listen to the clip and listen to everything that Joe put up on his own with his own money.. Then he built the show with other people. Then asked you to be a co-host... What part of that means you get OWNERSHIP?? You a paid entertainer fam. You get a salary for your service. I don't get to come into Microsoft today and talk about "yea I helped build this." Don't matter what increases we make in 3 years, they already established and they aren't in the business of giving ownership away. You can buy stock like the rest of the common folk... And if you are that amazing, they might give you some stock (ownership) when you sign. Maybe even make you a partner, CEO or give you a big stock package after decades of work.. But nobody is GIVING you ownership and access to the books, cause you were a good worker who did the job you were paid to do..

I said this the moment they left the first time. What in the hell leverage do they have? They can't even say they are day 1's. Why would any businessman make that deal? And triple since after you left, I saw I was just fine without you, and could easily replace you with two nikkas who just want a check and fame.

They played themselves. As most workers do. You want to own shyt, build your own shyt from the ground up, or present something they can't live without. They did neither

The revisionist history is really crazy. Joe rory and mall carried the pod nearly 500 episodes and 6 years.......... but now they were always trash. :mjlol:
I won't lie they started getting real complacent and bad the last few years. I stopped watching consistently sometime in 2020 and that was peak pandemic with shyt else to do.

Btw here's a full link to this episode:

Yeah I don't get that, people act like you can't fukk with a Joe Budden pod but also listen to self improvement, money making, career podcasts as well. There's a lot of stuff people find lame that are popular, I don't judge people regardless. People like what they like:yeshrug:

You are spot on

When you are part of starting up a venture get your terms sorted out for yourself....dont leave it up to anyone to decide your piece of the compensation

also Ice and that other cat are going to come back on that show after seeing this? Nah Joe gotta run me some bands UPFRONT

yeah, i dont assume shyt when it comes to my bag. can we negotiate? sure. but pay me what i decide you owe me, not what you decide to pay me. otherwise i'm not agreeing to do shyt. period.

and if i dont like the terms somewhere down the line, that most likely means i have to negotiate new terms, or prepare to go do something else, where i can get my new terms. i cant fault anyone for the terms i agreed to.

Is downrating and talking shyt about your employees on a public media platform business?

His biggest mistake in the situation is not making sure that his friends/employees were going to eat as well and mainly focused on what was best for himself. Those are his "employees", but also are/were technically his friends as well. Why screw them over if they've been with you for years and helped the podcast grow? Even if they were replaceable that's not the way you do business.

We clown other industries for doing that exact same thing, but are giving Budden a pass for it. Why even bring them back on there if you were going to go on a rant the way towards them that you did?

Handle that shyt behind the scenes and off the podcast.
He was paying them well by all accounts. mal and rory wanted more than the payments per episode and touring money. they wanted ownership in the JBP , joe said no. he built everyday struggle off his name and guided ak into the position. he built State of the Culture, The Pull Up, etc etc. Them other guys especially MAL were guided into the podcast, MAL for a number of years would just parrot the points already made and add "that's crazy" to it. breh is as nuanced as a one-door hallway.

Rory well...c'mon it's rory, what was he really bringing to the POD other than industry insights you could glean from any media outlet.

yep...I’d listen to this shyt while either washing the dishes or doing cardio most times...sometimes while cutting my hair...I don’t think I’ve ever just sat down idly and listened to it or any other podcast
Same.
