The fastest-growing vegan demographic is African Americans. Wu-Tang and other artist paved the way.

No mention of KRS-Ones song "Beef" which is probably 30 years old and breaking down why you shouldn't eat meat.
It’s in the second part of the article.

“back against the stereotyping of hip-hop artists.
“KRS-One was an inspiration for me,” Tucker says. “His song ‘Beef’ in 1990 influenced a lot people in hip-hop to think about veganism, to think about the meat in the slave diet, about the chemicals that were starting to be put in the food and the rise of highly processed foods.”

Let us begin now with the cow
The way it gets to your plate and how
The cow doesn’t grow fast enough for man
, So through his greed he makes a faster plan
He has drugs to make the cow grow quicker
Through the stress the cow gets sicker
In 2009”

That's not the point. No one likes the vegan police. Most people spend over 10+ years not being vegan. Everyone slips up.

The point is to do the best you can for your health, animal advocacy or the environment.
No one polices vegans. I lived with one who went back to fish and seafood while she was with me. Vegans have an arrogance to them and have to voice that they’re vegan every chance they get.

I don't believe this. I literally tell no one I"m vegan but the minute they find out they suddenly got 99 questions and always get defensive when I don't even be saying nothing. Like they'll say some shyt like 'oh but where u get____ from?" and make remarks about how the food I"m making is nasty or just other hating comments.

You'll say you vegan and suddenly people become health experts and want to tell you how you missing out on stuff and you'll get this if you don't do that.

I think people just feel some sort of guilty conscience if you get into a ethical debate which I don't care to do with people. if someone asks for an opinion and get mad at the answers it's not the vegan that's arrogant it's the person asking the question. Like some people feel disrespected if you don't want to participate in something with them and suddenly project.

Well, consider yourself an anomaly.

Yeah I saw that. I feel like you have to give KRS his respect outright not just a mention because he was rapping about not eating meat on my philosophy when he was at the height of his career. He put people on to it.

I call bs most black vegans probably always been on it way before it became popular among whites.

Facts. My dad's family has been plant-based since the 90s, and that's how I first became interested in it. The various Black consciousness movements have been on this wave for decades. I was drinking Almond Milk and eating Quinoa as a kid way before white Americans hopped on the wave.

Also, there's the fact that most of us have heart disease & diabetes in our families, and have lost several people to those preventable diseases. Many of us took this unfortunate fact and became determined to research and make better choices for our health.

that's good black people are moving away from fast food and soul food (chitlins, cooking shyt with lard and fat) With that being said, I wish their was more discussion on just eating organic meat and vegetables and eating a balanced diet, instead of "canceling" out meat.

I should’ve put this in higher learning. Nikkas ain’t reading shyt.

It said the main reason blacks are going vegan is because we seen the health damage to our communities and parents.

The Wu-Tang and other artist influence is about their investments in spreading Veganism into the black community. It highlighted styles P and Jadakiss four juice bars and Jay Z investment in the black owned Partake foods. Hence the hip hop is leading.

The third part highlighted the history of rappers promoting veganism in earlier raps ( this is more like a history lesson) She highlighted KRS-One “beef” and dead Prez.

Good points.

Seems like there's a middle ground between eating chitlins and going vegan though.

Some fresh salmon, veggies and a sweet potato should work for most people. Definitely not a big red meat guy even though chorizo, hot links and burgers taste damn good lol.

Some things I always think about are why vegans go out of their way to make food look like meat dishes? Also why are humans drinking cows milk in the first place? Calves stop drinking their mother's milk not too soon after they're born. I've seen how meat and fried food has impacted my family with problems. Eventually I probably will go a Mediterranean or plant based route.
