We're still in the jiggy era...It's been non stop since 1997... What does 90% of all mainstream artists rap about?
Money, hoes and clothes....
And they're still dressing like clowns and glorifying European culture.....
to be honest, that era was kinda wack
will smith/puff/mase/etc...they had some nice tracks and were running the game for a minute...but if pac was alive it might have been a whole different story
still@ puff appearing on krs' step into a world remix, dude was literally everywhere
That's a whole nother animal right there. Man, I should have fukked with the Jiggy Era back in the day. What's this got to do with European culture
Regarding the "Shiny suit era", I cant lie, I hated it at the beginng because I was/am a Wu-Tang/Nas/Mobb Deep/BCC head, so of course I wans't feeling it...but the fact is, as far as "party"/"non-grimy"/"non-streets" music goes, this was the best in HH IMO...Biggie, Mase were dope mcs, the instrumentals were great and diverse, Missy and Timbo came thru with a whole other style, I mean Bad Boy and the Bassment were running that era, Busta was killing it (Busta was "shiny/jiggy" while keeping it raw and had the whole "apocalypse" theme going on, IMO one of the best artists of that era) and tbh some rnb tracks from that era go harder than current hip-hop. So I was cool to party to that and when I wanted that grimey winter sh*t you still had Killarmy, Murda Muzik, Def Squad was never far...so all in all I'd say it was a great era, not as good as the previous one of course but still quite good.

The Jiggy Era was a confusing time because that's when a lot of rappers started "selling out" and it marked the end of the Grimy era for NY. Honestly, at the time, I didn't like the Jiggy era but looking back it wasn't so bad. Still couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this video though:
Mic Geronimo - Nothing Move But The Money - YouTube
I remember the backlash against Mic Geronimo was quick and severe. This video and song pretty much ended his career. Especially coming from something like this:
Mic Geronimo - Its Real - YouTube
Let's be real though the nostalgia is what's keeping us from admitting this era was trash.
I wouldn't call the era trash, it was a sideshow to laugh at while dope music was still being made that you didn't even have to search hard for....a lot of artists had their "jiggy tracks" and shyt for the real heads to appreciate. THIS era is trash because good hip-hop is virtually non-existent.
