2002 Verdict: Still a Sidekick.

So in summary, Kobe got better in the Finals each year of the 3-peat, but did not once approach Shaq's level. In their last successful Finals together, Shaq averaged almost 10 points a game more than Kobe, despite Kobe having a GREAT Finals, and shooting only 3.5 shots less per game than him.

Shaq was incredible and any star would have killed to play with him. Part of the hate for Kobe in that phase of his career was that he had such a golden opportunity and didn't appreciate it at all. If Shaq stayed in LA he would not have had to wait until 2009 to get back to the Finals with Gasol/Bynum/Odom. The Lakers could have kept making Finals runs for the rest of the 2000's had they stayed together.

Dog, there was a game against the sixers in the 01 finals where he had 28 pts, 20 rebs, 9 assts, & 8 blks:mindblown:
He did this against the reigning DPOY and one of the better defensive big men of all time in Mutombo too. Shaq doesn't get enough credit for what he did in that finals. It's one of the all time great performances over a series.

Yep. This is pretty much it. Even Kobe's FG% was pretty much a function of having the defense think twice about doubling Diesel.

He mauled their defense. When they tried to swarm him he had 9 assists. They would re-post 3 times in one possession to deal with the double-teams and his passing was masterful. Late in the series AI sat at the podium shaking his head telling the media "they got Shaq, man" and there was nothing else he could say. To try and say Kobe was an equal in these series' is a joke, the facts speak for themselves.

Two questions....

Why didn't Shaq continue to dominate the league and win rings without Kobe?

And why didn't Shaq win with Eddie Jones and Nick Van Exel?

This is what's referred to as ether of the highest dosage. The fact that there's a guy in this thread trying to argue still even after being presented these facts is beyond pathetic. I mean one of those finals Shaq shot a higher percentage from the foul line than Bryant did from the field and he didn't even hit 40% at the line :mjlol:

Come on. Put Vince Carter, T-Mac, AI, Pierce, Murbury, Ray Allen or even :francis: in place of Kobe during that run and they still win 3 'ships.

Those teams were all about Shaq.

YEA IM PRETTY SURE RAY ALLEN WOULD BE SCORING 30 POINTS A GAME AND PUTTING TEAMS OUT IN THE 4TH WHILE SHAQ RIDES THE BENCH....SHAQ COULDNT DO IT WITH PENNY, EDDIE JONES, NICK VAN EXEL....YOUR ARGUMENT IS NULL AND VOID

The 6
Two questions....

Why didn't Shaq continue to dominate the league and win rings without Kobe?

And why didn't Shaq win with Eddie Jones and Nick Van Exel?

He did for a little bit. 2005 he almost won the MVP in Miami (finished 2nd in voting, 58 first-place votes to Nash's 65), they lost in the ECF in 7 to Detroit cuz Wade got hurt and 2006 they won the title. He started falling off in the '06 playoffs, 13 years into his career, and it was a steep decline from there.

As for the EJ/Van Exel Lakers, they were a young team that played dumb when the pressure turned up in the playoffs against more veteran teams. They were also coached by a dumbazz named Del Harris. As soon as Phil showed up, Shaq started getting rings.

Kobe stans don't want to hear this though. According to them it was all Kobe and it had nothing to do with Phil or Shaq. You can't use any logical argument to shyt them up because their brain doesn't function logically. I mean this guy is still arguing after being shown how much more dominant he was than Bryant in the finals and can't see even in the slightest that his argument loses.
