Ain't no way you're trying to say y'all overpaid for this cat, when you'd have to give up more for a worse player in Nurkic. He's the type of big man that you don't want. He's lazy, slow, isn't a lob threat and is genuinely just a net-negative on the floor because he doesn't do anything well anymore. The Lakers quickly made a trade for him in order to fill the void left by Anthony Davis. He’s their AD replacement at the C/PF position. Hayes wasn’t the solution long term. He’s more of a bench player than a starter.

These players look good by default on garbage teams because there’s no one else better than them there. That’s why they get plenty of playing time. On much better teams with much more talent, they are properly relegated to the bench and are seen as depth players instead of core players, being surrounded by superior players makes them expandable.
