They probably could’ve gotten Gafford for that package added in the original Luka trade. Dallas ain’t keeping all those bigs on the roster.

The Lakers don't have the financial means to make a trade like that work. Not unless they were willing to part with more depth, which would be counterproductive because then it would depreciate the ceiling of the squad.
Hayes is a garbage man. Mark has an infinitely better offensive skillset, not just scoring, but he's a lot smarter too in making the right play. Defensively, he does struggle, but his issues are exacerbated being on a bad team. If the Lakers are controlling and dominating a game, there's going to be fewer possessions where he's exposed.
