Dudes were crying “where’s Wardlow?” And “push Wardlow!” :mjlol:

Sucks for him, but the fan outrage was :dead: looking at it now. Did they ever think that Maybe the people behind the scenes know more than an armchair booker does? :ohhh:
Of course not, it was just concern trolling from the anti-AEW people…

Just like last time, when comparing the PPV attendance from UK vs U.S, I'm just pointing out the obvious contrast between the overseas business vs the U.S business.

If the thing is that AEW can't expect anything in the U.S except in big cities, that's still an issue that shouldn't be hand waived :manny: on one hand you have St. Louis show not even moving 100 tickets last week after a really poor advance, but on the other there's an Indiana Dynamite in December that had a good advance (for today's AEW standards), it might be something bigger than "well the place they chose had no shot of doing anything".

I don't remember St. Louis doing that well for them last time either. Typically AEW PPVs don't struggle to move tickets in the U.S. or Canada, those are the events that always sell well like 'Full Gear' advance in Newark or 'ALL OUT' which just passed 10k the other day with a couple weeks to go.

I also think some of it is that there's a couple B-shows like 'WrestleDream' that don't have a clearly defined gimmick. It doesn't really even make sense anymore.

Tony Khan also needs to start advertising better with who is going to be where and be quicker on confirming matches for which events but I think this also happened last year during this time. The start of the Premier League (and the transfer window) and the start of the NFL season all happening around the same time. He's stretched too thin this time of year.

I think you are severely underselling how well they are doing overseas but alas :manny: I think the fact they can do these big shows with great results is a good sign when they continue to be cold as hell in the U.S. I wouldn't have guessed they could get that level of success without the numbers in hand, I don't think it's as simple as "do a show in a major city overseas, it will do well".

They could be doing mediocre or downright bad and that's not the case, that's interesting to me.

For Mexico it's likely the CMLL affiliation they've always had. It's been a great partnership. For the UK, I think the Brits are more likely to A) respect great wrestling/in-ring action because it's in their roots and B) AEW has always treated the UK as a big deal. They received back-to-back 'ALL IN' events and then more big events after that. Apparently, their ratings do very well in the UK too. For Australia, I don't know. Aussies like wrestling and they've been underserved over the years so it could just be that simple.

In the grand scheme of things, in this world of mega corporations and micro cultures disappearing, a brand in dominant cultural export center of the US spending as much as they do to be as visible as they are - if they couldn't draw numbers on name alone for international shows there would be something seriously wrong.
Exactly, and I'm glad that's not the case. I just don't take it as an obvious thing. Not a lot of wrestling is doing well these days, let alone that level of business. I had no expectations in them doing that well in Australia nor bouncing back in Canada like they did. México was going to do well but even that was better than what I expected.

Tbh, I thought they were going to do mediocre/forgettable business (except México) like they did in Japan. AEW has not been the kind of hot promotion that makes this year's international results seem inevitable. That's where I'm coming from at least.
Correct me if I'm wrong - didn't they have to downscale the Australia show because they weren't moving what they assumed? :hubie:

Wasn't All In a stadium show? Wasn't the second one a weaker draw than the first, and then the follow up show in that city an arena?
The third show went to an arena because they couldn't schedule Wembley (Coldplay had the place booked for the August holiday date), tbf. They would've gone there this year as well and more than likely do much better than what they did in Texas.

The Australia got thankfully downscaled because they were doing a freaking stadium show, that's what I mean that it ain't as automatic as booking a big show overseas and people will come. They sold out the arena.

I think this year's 'Forbidden Door' and the 'Grand Slam' in Australia are among some of their highest live gates. A stadium show isn't always a given that it's gonna sell out or come close, 'Elimination Chamber' with The Rock on the show did 37k in a building that easily holds 50k.

I didn't view Wembley going from 81k to 50k as a bad thing, they were never going to be able recreate the first event simply because it was the first, especially not the very next year. Back to back was asking a lot but it still did very well.

I don't think FTR needed the belts at all. The whole time I was thinking either keep them with Hurt Syndicate or capitalize on the rising popularity of Brody/Bandido. I'm more interested in Syndicate vs. G.O.A. than a feud with FTR. The FTR feud with Cope and Christian doesn't need belts.
