I'm currently reading "The Book: On the Taboo Against Knowing Who You Are" by Alan Watts and it has some good quotes to meditate on:

"What guarantee is there that the five sense, taken together, do cover the whole of possible experience? They cover simply our actual experience, our human knowledge of facts or events. There are gaps between the fingers; there are gaps between the senses. In these gaps is the darkness which hides the connection between things."

I like this quote.

Filling those gaps are hard, and if you feel them with abstract ideas or self-help mumbo jumbo you will always feel like something is missing, it was hard, it was painful, but I think I finally became a well-rounded individual...

I focused on concrete thinking and don't get too lost on rhetoric or feel good sayings.

I agree, what are dudes actually meditating on?

That self-help stuff, yoga, meditation is cool if you are that messed in the head. But otherwise I never seen all that abstract zen thinking being is nothing but an emotional opium if it is not focused on a goal.

I rather read something and get some knowledge or info.

I don't think you need to be fukked in the head to get something out of it. In fact, I think taking care of that side helps the more objective and goal oriented side of things. It's no different than CEOs NEEDING their daily run (an incredibly meditative exercise) or other workout to have the energy and focus to get through their days. And how eating right gives you the energy and health to get your goals.

It's all holistic to me, because everything is connected.

As an example, the meditation and jiu-jitsu session I had earlier boosts my testosterone and focus, which will in turn help me with my comedy writing and taking away anxiety on stage. So I wasn't necessarily meditating on my comedy and my goals in that moment, but it will get me much closer to my goals because I took care of myself.

EDIT: And with that said, I agree, you gotta be giving yourself good info. I read like crazy and learn my craft also. Don't wanna just be the best meditator.

The word "meditation" itself might be an obstacle.

Just sit still, and make sure to breathe at all times during the meditation session.

These are two actions that we can actively keep track of during meditation. Everything else is baggage...

Yeah, especially living in the western hemisphere. People are immediately turned off when you get on that eastern, chakra, universe, mindfulness shyt lol.

This one is going to come off real hippyish, but I've been doing it for a while on and off, and when I really focus and dedicate my energy to it, it's :whew:

The video thoroughly breaks down the science behind it, but basically it's a meditation that you think to yourself the phrase "I love you, I'm sorry, Please forgive me, Thank you." repeatedly.

Essentially, the neuroses that we have about anything in life stems from being self conscious, angry, embarrassed, unsure, fearful, etc. By mentally repping this mantra, it breaks through those holding patterns, cleans the memories keeping you tight and allows you to live in the moment and one with Divine consciousness.

:leon:There's a headspace app that helps guide you through mediations. You start of with 5 mins, then move on to 10 and then 20. It works for some people as it gives them structure and a routine to follow.

meditation is about focusing all your awareness on one point like your breath and observing and letting go of thoughts when they arise. the. bringing focus back to the breath again. its not just sitting there doing nothing. this trchnique has been scientifically proven. its not spiritual mumbo jumbo. its very hard to do.

I'm been meaning to get more into self-hypnosis. A got a couple of books about it, but I'm trying to work it into a regular routine. Same with meditation. Self-hypnosis is supposed to good for implanting positive beliefs into your subconscious mind. It's similar to meditation, but it has a specific goal.

somebody put me on to earth methods of meditation. what exactly is meditation? what does it do and how does it benefit me?
It's like this:

It's also similar to when souls are taken in the "soul extraction" process. Yet instead of storing the souls you journey inside them for a brief rest.
