It's because it's using that fake "murder rate" statistic. It's balanced out by a rich white and Asian population. If they only count the South Side and the West Side of Chicago, the murder rate would rival that of big cities in Latin America.

this is the case with most cities in the top 20. I was just schooling one of these anime nerds just now who tried to say American hoods are not are dangerous as other hoods world wide. He used Kingston as a city tougher than any American city. mind you 2 american cities come before Kingston on the most dangerous cities list globally. But those two american cities are also far richer and have more affluential parts than any other cities on those list. that should tell you how much those hoods in these american cities skew their stats

legit would not think oakland is higher than chicago. shyt aint sweet here, but oakland feels way calmer in regards to homicide than it was in the early 00's where we were setting records for like 3-4 years straight

oakland feels lawless in regards to property crime/robberies, but it doesn't feel like the 90's/00s to me for murder. altho i'm clearly much older and more removed from that element, so maybe i'm just out the loop

especially within the last decade. it's felt like it's one of the most walkable "big" cities. Even in east Oakland I don't get that no go zone or iffy feel. But then again when I'm in east Oakland I usually just stick to International, 98 avenue or Eastmont mall area, the big axis streets where there are alot of redevelopment. Even McArthur feels walkable or urbanize

To be 100% fair, the highest being Baltimore is 60 people out of 100,000. Baltimore being a population of ~600k means less than 400 homicides per year.

That's 1 out of every 1,700 people for the worst city in America.

Don't use that as an excuse for a bigger police force to come in and "crack down", use that as a excuse to build the city up.

Me and my sis got a gut renovated rowhouse for $250k as an investment property out there in Patterson park 2 blocks away from the park. It was her idea. She had to live there part time. It's finally now being rented. Baltimore has mad potential, but is very rugged especially across the US-40. The mortgage process for that was waaaay easier and quicker than getting my house in New York. We've met quite a few people from the DC area who now live out there for the cheaper housing. Renovating the dilapidated houses is a great step in the right direction. I've lived thru the Brooklyn transformation, so it can happen. I feel being that DC is so expensive, it will help Bmore.
