The nations only Black governor, Wes Moore, just blocked Maryland's reparation Taskforce bill.

Now, I don’t like his decision at all, but I do think that, again, we gotta put shyt in perspective.

“Black ass Maryland” is 50% White and 30% Black, 20% Hispanic & Asian.

Other races will not vote for Black politicians in major races/seats if they are explicitly running on reparations.
Y’all have got to realize that.

It’s been mentioned before- if we are voting in a politician who is running on reparations, it has to be on the LOCAL LEVEL, and we help push that person higher in the political realm because they will have to answer to the ppl who put them there (us).

Local government like- county board of supervisors, school board (curriculum; are local schools teaching the kids the truth about this nation’s history?), County executives, city council, mayors, etc.

Are we putting Black ppl who are advocating for us and our platform(s) in those positions I listed above? That’s where it starts.

I ain’t being funny but this is a case where I agree with @Wiseborn ; Moore has to answer to the ppl who put him in position. And no, that’s not just the voters; that’s the ppl who convinced him to enter politics. But even with that, he still had to get votes from a decent number of whites to win his state.

If anything he’s gonna have to try to enact policies that benefit Black folks in MD but are not explicitly for them, I guess like Obama tried. Remember this is Trump’s America and there are plenty of racist ass white ppl in MD too.
Once you leave the major areas and ride out, there are plenty of places where there are few to no Black ppl at all.

It passed the state house and senate and he vetoed it.

The New York governor signed a reparations study into law a few years ago.

My honegirl who is a MD delegate is PISSED!

This week, the Governors of Virginia and Maryland vetoed legislation impacting African Americans. One was unsurprising. The other was deeply disappointing and inconsistent with the grave social climate of this moment in history. I am sadly embarrassed that my friend vetoed the only comprehensive bill to study and recommend action on reparations in Maryland's history. Representation is critically important, but it's never been the only objective.

I am proud of the broad support we received to pass S.B. 587. Onward, the work continues!

I’ve had my own thoughts about Wes Moore before this. While it’s nice to see a breh running the state he’s fukking up this state financially. The state had a $3 billi surplus when he got in office. Now it’s like $2 billi deficit and nobody can see where the money went. I work for the state and have seen agencies have to make a ton of budget cuts as a result. Luckily my salary is paid by the revenue we generate so we aren’t affected by the budget

That being said reparations is a slippery slope. While it’s something we are owed it’s not something we are gonna get. That shyt is obvious especially in today’s climate. Him fighting for reparations is career suicide if he has plans past being a governor. All I know is if he runs for governor again he prolly won’t be getting my vote

The bill passed both chambers majority in favor of it. Career suicide is shyt scary politicians think about like Obama and Harris.

You noticed how no negro that is propped up in politics has full descendants of American slaves blood in them? They are hand picked Negroes like Malcolm X said.

You’re corrrect Maryland is not really that Black as a state. But it has the most Black polictical representatives. Georgia is hella Black but they can’t get a Black Governor in there Maryland has a Black Governor and now a Black senator and one who is unlikely to lose her seat. So far Warnock has been lucky but it looks like he might end up keeping his seat too.

Also the reparations movement must start at the grassroots level. For example Balitmore City and Prince George’s county is overwhelmingly Black enough for a Pro Reparations ticket to win.

Additionally both of these places could enact some level of reparations through taxes tax cuts or even grants. Could they be sued by Stephen Miller sure but at the end of the day State and local rights and local governments can make tax and spending policies If the people vote for it.

America is still a representative republic ( alledgelly)

We do have to fight but I think the ultimate point is, are WE putting these politicians is position?

Did he discuss reparations on the campaign trail?

Are we using our resources and political power to put someone on the ballot who represents OUR needs?

That’s the point. I’m not even saying I'm for/against breh. But did he run with reparations as part of his campaign?
The ppl who run his campaign told him how to vote on this because the goal is continue his political career and he ain’t winning white, Hispanic, Asian etc votes talking about reparations. That’s the real.

What politicians are WE funding and putting on the ballot to be voted in?

Like I said, it’s been mentioned before. We need to be really involved at the grassroots level putting people in position in local government. And if they don’t do what we like, they lose our support and votes. Which means that can’t reach higher office without our support. THAT is how we get politicians who advocate for us.
Well we know that C. Anthony Muse put the study forward so even though he’s in a safe seat anyway he should be backed.

The funny thing is he’s a State Senator like State Senator Clay Davis from the wire. I’m sure he cajoles the boule class of PG County to donate to the Maryland Democrats.
