The 80's were fun to watch. Yeah we knew who were going to be in the finals but watching the league grow year by year was great. Back then you loved the game and there were no such things as "stans" or "dikk riders". You were "allowed" to like multiple players and teams WITHOUT abandoning your favorite team. The 80's fans >>>today's "fans" by a long shot. It was also better because we didn't know the player's every move, there was a certain respect and mystique even though some things about them were a bit embellished. Heck, even struggle teams were fun to watch.
agree fully

Yeah and there were no cable games outside of TBS with the Hawks and WGN with the Bulls...The league seemed really small back then...You just got what you could....It's the reason that 80% of Lakers fans of have never had California drivers licenses...

This hard for today's fans to understand. I was in North Carolina when I started getting into basketball, NC had no team, I liked Kareem, so therefore I adopted the Lakers as my squad, that's who we only saw on TV......... Boston or LA and maybe the Knicks.when I cam back to NY pops sponsored that big satellite on the roof....games galore!

Exactly.

I didn't care about the NBA until Magic and them lost to the Celtics in the Finals and I got caught up into them trying to beat the ghosts of losing to them....as well as hating to see a team as white as the Celtics win. :laff:

Even the racial element added to the luster of the 80s!! :ohlawd:

See, this shyt was more personal to us. Hating that Celtics team was easy to do because of the racist elements surrounding them (their city, announcers and the NBA's favoritism towards them) the Lakers vs. the Celtics to me was more of a Black vs. White thing.

btw im a generation behind yall, but i i have family from boston and from LA, so i always felt torn as a kid when all you heard was lakers/celts

i just thought it was funny that when the race issue came up between the teams, robert parish and kurt rambis were never mentioned. those two were the most conspicuous anomalies of the boston/la nba race war
