There’s no defense in the NBA, the game is completely geared towards offense shining and players being able to put up “big” numbers to secure max contracts. The NBA as a business benefits because aesthetically, players scoring a lot and generating offense is fun to watch for the casual fan. But it’s gotten really bad from a pure basketball standpoint.

We don’t see real defense until the second/third round of the playoffs and there’s 82 games of guys stat padding and load managing. The team with the most NBA players got out rebounded, out hustled, out skilled and just completely outplayed. On Team USA, you have multiple guys who are FIRST and SECOND options on their team (Ant, Ingram, Haliburton, Brunson, Bridges, Banchero) with MAX deals, insanely skilled offensively but ego and being selfish prevented them from making an impact together. None of them took up the challenge to do the dirty work like box out, rebound, strap someone up on the perimeter. In the NBA, guys like Bridges and Haliburton are considered good defensive players but absolutely COOKED by euro leaguers and had Dillon Brooks drop damn near 40 on them.

Granted with guys like Bron, KD, Tatum, Booker its a different story but does the US really need their most ELITE players to beat fringe starters and euro league players? It's not just about team chemistry. Even Canada is a roster with a bunch of G League and Euro League players and this is their first time playing together and they looked decent. The US is filled with an ALL NBA Roster and couldn't beat CANADA. I think the NBA as a league should be a little embarrassed about their display and representation of the game on an international level. Not to mention 4-5 players in the top 10 in the NBA are international players in Doncic, Giannis, Embiid, Shai, Jokic.

I’m still gonna watch but :manny: this FIBA tournament made it abundantly clear the NBA is a watered down version of basketball in 2023.
:francis: stop disrespecting us, our roster isn’t filled with G League and Euro League players. Entire rotation was NBA players, only overseas player that got minimal time was Ejiim, rest didn’t play.

I, for one, welcome our new space overlords.
Agreed. When you look back in the 80s and 90s Superstars wanted to play every night. It was intense. Most NBA stars of today are talented guys sleepwalking through 60 regular games (while playing 31min per game) playing no defense. They get their 25ppg, all star selection for the worst exhibition in the world and ensure they guarantee more money and more years to earn that money. If it seems like the superstar's team won't make the playoff, he starts sitting out for the last 10-15 games 'saving' himself for next season. Everybody wants to be man too, Iso balls 70% of the time.

Playoffs at least are a bit better, but you can see the defense is still terrible because the guys haven't been practising how to lockdown teams at all.

Okay name the A rank then :mjlol:

They gne need the old heads to compete. Lillard, Bron, Butler, KD, Jrue.

Tatum and Brown ain’t gne be enough.
:what: the A rank team would literally be a mix of the vets like you mentioned and then the young stars like Tatum/Brown/Ja/Zion/Fox

Ant might be the only nikka from this squad that MIGHT make that team and he'd be coming off the bench.

Imagine Dillon brooks putting up 40 with Jimmy Butler/the Jays/etc. taking turns locking him up :mjlol: cmon man the shyt wouldn't be competitive, Durant/Steph/Harden/Dame/Kyrie/AD/Bam/Bron

Your post has to be disingenuous :mjlol: you can go through each position and easily pick 2-3 players better than what this roster had, the center position would be the only struggle

Jrue wouldn't even be guaranteed a spot on that team whereas with this current squad he'd be starting and carrying them :bryan:

The point is that if the NBA was such an elite league in comparison to the rest of the world the USA should be able to win a tournament like this, even without their top superstars. But that’s not the case anymore. Clearly the world is catching up and you can see how uncomfortable a lot of the NBA guys (including some international players in the league) are with officiating that allows players to actually play defence.

Why did those in charge of USA Basketball move away from the multiple year commitment? Back in 06 all those guys played in the Worlds and then you knew they were coming back in the 08 Olympics(plus added Kobe). Now you got the Worlds being treated as the side quest again being filled with future stars and vet role players happy for the opportunity

Don’t argue with these bozos. Every Olympic team has been a mix of vets & young players.

The Olympics next summer, cats acting like Curry, Durant are ancient. Lol.
